depends on the individual bird.  but more often than not in my experience they like to talk.  and it can be a pretty shrill, annoying whistle.

Birds shit everywhere, and are super annoying. Maybe I am biased but I just hate pet birds.  My mom used to have a parakeet named Albert and if it ever got out of the cage it would fly down and grab people's hair with it's talons (?) and then peck your head. Fuck birds.

A parrot would be cool if you could teach it to say something like "Let's smoke a bowl"

I used to have a really chill parakeet. It would just sit on your shoulder and chirp little songs for you.

I had a cockatiels. They were awesome. I bred them and had little baby cockatiels that I would sell to the local pet shop. :awesome:

They were hand raised and were completely comfortable around people. They didn't really make that much noise, but man did they shit A LOT.

These two look almost exactly like my first breeding couple.

As dumb as this sounds, keep your bird on a schedule, cover his/her cage with a towel at night right around the same time each night.  he will go to sleep and wake up the next morning chirping and squaking

Yup, that's cockatiels for ya.

I like ours, he's a little guy always up for attention and like to fluff up and whistle you tunes.

Yeah I've had 3 seperate Cockateils.

They DO shit everywherethough, multiple times an hour, on your shoulder, on your chair, on the ground, on your keyboard...wherever the fuck. You learn to deal with it though, a ply of toilet paper and it's instantly cleaned.

It's going to turn into an asshole bird unless you give it HEAPS of attention from birth, personally I wouldn't even get one unless you were unemployed, had someone at home all day (stay at home mum, worked from home etc.).

If you give it 24/7 attention from birth, it will turn into a kickass bird for life. If you keep it in it's cage for 23 hours a day then expect it to be cool when you get it out for an hour after work, it will be a little asshole.

Birds are meant to fly and not live in cages.  They are living things, not decoration.

I don't.

Why would I want to keep a bird?  A bird is not mine to own.

Birds annoy the shit out of anyone and everyone within earshot.

If you can't break it's neck and make a nice meal out of it, don't bother keeping one around.

obviously you're referring to the avian variety because several of the
birds I knew definitely needed to live in cages, others were decoration

That's why I would only ever get a bird again if I was at home 24/7.

I wouldn't ever keep a bird by itself anymore, always in a pair, and not in a cage but an aviary large enough to fly (no clipped wings).

I used to have my cocakteil out of the cage 6-7 hours a day before/after school and the other 8 hours my mum used to hang with it while I was at school, chilling with her while doing housework. It was a VERY happy bird.

Dogs are different.  Dogs and men have walked side by side throughout the animal's evolution.  Dogs seem to enjoy domesticated life.  So do cats.  But birds are just so alien man, and in order to keep one, you have to take away the thing that makes them special, their ability to fly.

I don't understand it.  Its cruel.

If an animal does not want to be in your family room, you got no right to keep it there.
