Or just introduce light and a temperature drop?
Peace.

no need to case P.Cubensis unless you are haveing trouble keeping humidity up.

It's up to you! I say introduce to fruiting without casing. You want to introduce light and fresh air exchange, more than a temp drop.

i have heard this question so many times. we should just have a banner or something on the front page with the answer...but i have cased and had a little more luck with it. but either way works. its probably more work than its worth

So just take tinfoil off the top of the tub?, drop temp to about 75oF and introduce fresh air?
Will i be at a high risk of gettin contams with a very well ventilated top?
Thanks for the help

Cubensis Mycelium needs neither a temperature drop or casing layer.
Your most important pinning trigger is fresh air. It's also your best defense against contaminants.

if your sub is fully colonized then no.
if its not fully colonized then mega yeah, high risk.

gonna have to be now j/k but you shouldnt check it by opening you need something clear to view your progress without introducing FAE like plastic wrap.
FAE is a big pinning trigger so best to wait for fruiting time.
but it looks good from that pic. fruit it. do you have pins already? cant tell 4 sure from the pic.?

it helps, think of myc as a wrap around your substrate and it seals it off from the contams.
the contams cant germinate on the myc but can easily on exposed substrate. thats why cakes dont contam in shotgun FCs cus they are fully colonized and have consolidated.

Mycelium does not "wrap around the substrate" or seal it off from contamination. Contamination affects the nutrients in the substrate whether it's colonized or not.
There is essentially zero difference between a cake and a bulk substrate. The only differences are the procedures.
Like all substrates, cakes contaminate all the time in shotgun fruiting chambers.
That substrate in the picture shown above is ready to fruit. You don't need to case it or fiddle with anything else if you don't wish to. Cubensis is not a finicky species.

i thought that was just cuz the cake is weaker after a flush or 2

you can take that up with RR cuz hes the one who told me the analogy, Im just repeating the pros info.

Do you want it medium or rare??
It's really up to you bro!
If u use the search engine u gonna find out that everyone has a different opinion so, the best thing to do is find out on your own. Next time make an experiment, divide your bulk in 2 equal parts, leave one uncased and case the other one and see how it goes.

I think it's a misquote. Fully colonized substrates are highly resistant to contamination. If the mycelium weakens for any reason, that area is susceptible to molds.

You should be colonizing your bulk substrate at 70F to 75F so there's no need for a temperature drop, which by the way isn't a pinning trigger with tropical species that fruit in 90F weather in the wild. If you've been colonizing at a higher temp than 75F, you need a temp drop to speed up colonization and help prevent contaminants.
Once a substrate is fully colonized, it's quite resistant to contamination, provided you give lots of fresh air. Molds like stale, still air and mushrooms prefer to form in moving, fresh air. RR
