How close to FC does daylight need to be?
    #11383072 - 11/04/09 01:28 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

For a GE energy smart daylight (26w/100w equivalent) would it suffice to put in a closet ceiling socket with no cover?  Does some (a few feet difference) space between FC and light source negatively affect anything?

Mushrooms need light only as a stimulation for fruiting and to get the direction in which fruits should grow (usually we want them grow upwards). So they don't need light for energy source as plants. That's why it doesn't matter if they don't get that much light, as long as they have some and as similar to sunlight as possible. So don't worry about the lights, just concentrate on humidity and fresh air.:mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2:

Closer is better, the intensity drops off in proportion to the square of the distance.

True for some species, but Ps. cubensis does better with good bright light of the appropriate spectrum temperature.

Well I'm thinking top closet shelf for tubs with that light would probly be a good combination. It'd keep them off the floor and relatively close to the light at the same time.
