Quart of oyster myc on rye
    #11381940 - 11/04/09 08:51 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

What to do with a quart of oyster myc on rye?
It was a test jar, and it tested well (not that I had doubts, the culture was from SporeWorks).

Before I go exploring new substrates, I can just use CCV, right?
Spawn to a little tray of it, then after it colonizes, pop it out of the tray and into a shotgun FC?

Gawd, I feel like such a n00b.

Yeh oysters should be cool on CCV. I use h.shit, cardboard, eggshells, verm and coffee. Newspaper was a monumental failure for me so i dont bother with it.

A quart for a test, fuck, i use a plate lol.

I have seen trays of oysters and the odd monotub but never tried doing it that way, i should tho, i cut holes in the spawn bags and hang it in my SG with a coat hanger, works fine but i cant get it cool enough for the ulitmate fruits.

If it was my own culture, I'd have used a half pint or less for a test.

If I can get a good technique down, I should be able to use my utility room, it's not as heated as the rest of the place. I figured a shotty would be ok there. Plus it's out of the living space, in case there's a spore eruption.

Dunno, but I would think so. Syringe just says it's Pleurotis columbinus.
It's my first purchase that wasn't for microscopy, so I don't know what's normal for live cultures.

Im planning to grow Blue Oysters on rye then spawning to CVC+G in a tray and fruiting in the 60s(F) in my greenhouse.    RR says oysters are meatier and more dense when fruited in cooler temps. :stoned:

I think instead of trays, I'm going to try to make coir columns.
Colonize the stuff in tall straight-sided jars, then pop them out like cakes. I've got some tall 12oz jars and some widemouth freezer pints with straight sides.

I'm doing a batch of what would be ordinary bulk sub for cubes-
4 ounces coir
1 pint verm
1 pint gypsum
1 pint coffee grounds
Mix that with my quart, pack some jars, and then see what happens.
I'll update in a week, if things go well.

I've also got a couple of BRF cakes going, that should work.
