Well I think that Sci-Fi channel did a great job on the Dune mini series. Which was perhaps one of my favorite novels.

Dune isn't exactly 'sci-fi', but I have enjoyed every version of it I've watched.
Star Trek is sci-fi. The "universe" in it is our own in the future, not an alternate one as in say Star Wars.

But it's not our universe. The physics doesn't work out with what we know to be true in our world.
I like Star Trek, don't get me wrong. But it's not science fiction.

Depends if you want your horror concrete or more psychological If the latter then the second two. If the former then the first two.

You're talking about the difference between "hard" and "soft" sci-fi, not the difference between sci-fi and fantasy.

most times i will agree with you but there are a few exceptions that come to mind. you HAVE to see Sunshine, Moon, and 12 Monkeys if youve not already. they are fantastic modern scifi movies.
other than that i tend to like more of the 50s-60s scifi: The Time Machine <-- 1960 Planet of the Apes <-- 1968 Forbidden Planet <-- 1956 Logans Run <-- 1976 Journey to the Center of the Earth <-- 1959 Fantastic Voyage <-- 1966 The Day The Earth Stood Still <-- 1951 Marooned <-- 1969 Total Recall <-- 1990 Lifeforce <-- 1985 - who knew i would enjoy a movie about "space vampires" as much as i did Gattaca <-- 1997 Primer <-- 2004 Dark City <-- 1998

the biggest one that comes to mind is the first Terminator. watch it again. that movie is structured more like a horror movie than anything else.

Is Donnie Darko sic-fi?
-------------------- People say that what we're all seeking is a meaning for life. I don't think that's what we're really seeking. I think what we're seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances within our own innermost being and reality, so we can actually feel the rapture of being alive.

It depends on whether you take it literally or as some sort of representation of the kid's schizophrenia.
You could easily argue for both.
I'm gonna say ya in either case though.

Yeah that is a wicked movie. Interesting to note is that are no women in the movie but still its a must-see!
thats the reason i like it - no bitches, no problems. fuck thinly plotted love subplots that are more unreal than the alien itself.
