blue mushroom
    #11381614 - 11/04/09 05:41 AM (7 years, 11 months ago)

It was another nice day for a walk in Seattle.  Some people suggested checking out the area around public buildings (schools, power stations, etc).  While I didn't find anything active today, I did come across a lot of mushrooms, including some really dried out red stropharia and I believe some birch boletes, which were way past their prime, around a power station and a playground.  I also found a kind I've never seen before.  Google search hasn't been working all day, Bing turned up nothing and my mushroom books haven't arrived yet.  So I was wondering if anyone had any idea what this one is.

thanks for the info. this one and others were growing right alongside a bunch of red stropharia. hoping some rain will bring out some other goodies.

Well, I usually don't take my Nikon DSLR with me, so I don't have any pics. I should really get a small digital cam to carry around at all times for non-artsy spontaneous mushroom photography, too.

If you're tired of your nikon feel free to send it over here  I'd be glad to take it. Personally I'm eyeing a little 12.4 mp digital myself - god I wish I had money

Yeah, for christmas I told my wife I wanted a new camera, and she was like:

"Well, I'm not sure we can afford another $250 right now."

And I was like.. yeah.. nevermind... <sigh>

I don't think she realized I was looking more in the 500-1000 range with no lense.

I right there with you.  Don't have a wife or anything, but am wanting to upgrade to a dSLR w/ a few lenses.  Even being frugal, I still am looking at $500-600.  I just ordered one of the gorilla tripods though for twenty.  For the price, it will allow me to pull off a lot more photos than I currently can w/ shaky hands or improvised stands.  The point and shoots are real handy when out hunting.  I don't think I'd lug a bigger camera around often, especially during hunts in the rain.  If you actually go into the camera's manual mode, you can do a lot more than if you stay in auto.

Yeah, tell me about it. The Nikon plus the Sigma macro lense was around $1200. The difference between little boys and grown men is that the latter's toys are more expensive, that's all.

Yep.  I'm lucky enough that a $1.00 toy still entertains my daughter for hours.  I'm not looking forward to the day of wardrobes, ponies and cars

Cool, what is the soil like that they were growing out of? Chips or compost?
