ok. so i got these jars, that i have had subtrate in for a few months now. some of them didnt have anything colonize, while others did. i used the jars b4, but im wondering maybe thats why some didnt colonize. so any way i cleaned em out today, and they are full of funk. i normally use blue wolf to clean em, then simple green after that. im wondering if anyone has a better cleaning method then that for funky funk jars. im also wondering if the jars could effect my colonization? i cant get any new jars, because they stopped selling em every where around here, since canning season is over. and i dont want to order any here, for other reasons...

wash them with antibacterial dish soap real good, wipe them down with rubbing alcholol and that should do it. If you really want to be safe you can pressure cook them for like a half hour too. I don't think thats necessary though.
The best method goes like this though:
Soak the jars in rubbing alchohol, set them on your kitchen table, light them on fire and dance around the table chanting "SHR00M0L0GIST IS GOD" until they burn out.

clean them out with warm water and dish soap then throw them in the dishwasher if you dont have a dish washer just scrub them good with warm water and dish soap, antibacterial soap is good but your just going to sterilize them in the pc dont stress I doubt this is your problem. If you have jars that are not collonizing it is too much water or not enough ,my guess is to much so read the faq, and follow it. you will get it ...

I still like this method better:
Soak the jars in rubbing alchohol, set them on your kitchen table, light them on fire and dance around the table chanting "SHR00M0L0GIST IS GOD" until they burn out. LOL

If you got a friend who does piercings or tattoos, ask to use their autoclave.

Why bother? an autoclave does exactly the same thing as a pressure cooker.

I think pressure cookers are more readily available than an autoclave.
