cactus cutting problemo
    #11380723 - 11/04/09 12:48 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

hey i took a cutting off of my san pedro a week or two ago and at first it was pretty tough, not mushy, and almost perfect.    now i noticed some weird brown spots on it and im not sure what to  do or what it is.  it looks similar to the other thread about black boils on the cactus but is browner and not oozing stuff.  the cactus has also gooten softer it seems.  any tips?  thanks

They're fine.

My pedro's have similar spots and they are only cosmetic and pose no risk to the cacti's health. I've also read that it could also be stress on the vascular system when the cutting was taken but that is only hypothetical and not fact.

It may also feel softer as it has no roots and is using up its reserve water and shrinking, making it feel softer.

Give it at least a few weeks to form a decent callous and then only time will tell from there. It will also depend on what season it is too.

its winter here. im in socal.  it already has a nice callous.  i cant wait.  and where i cut it off of my "mother" pedro already has 2 pups, one is growing nice and fast and one is still small as hell.  i noticed them at the same time when they were bb sized and now one pup is still bb sized and one is already about the size of strawberry or something that size.  i take a pic of them every weekend so ill probably make a grow log of them soon.
