So i was watching that zeitgeist movie on the federal reserve, and had a quick question for whoever has seen it or understand legal and political subjects than I:
how is it if they say that the federal income tax is not a law, then how is it that know lawyers fighting cases against owing taxes to the government, ever get to the supreme court and get challenged?

Simple - zeitgeist is wrong, it is a law.

the 16th amendment can be used to justify any tax on all income, as i understand it.

jeez. why is it that so much of the world's current fucked up shit seems to have started in the 1910's?

Probably because it is the dawn of the modern industrial era where the world started to get 'smaller' as it became easier to travel between distant geographical locations.

True. I suppose if there were survivors from the various civilizations that have disappeared throughout history, they would view our current era with envy.

The major idea is that the 16th amendment was not properly ratified.
http://www.givemeliberty.org/features/taxes/notratified.htm
There are a lot of other ideas about how it isnt "legal" to pay income taxes.....
This site does a good job of knocking them down.

All you need to know about the legality of income taxes is that if you don't pay them you go to jail.

Good question. A lot of people have remarked upon that.
It's mainly because the president at that time was a self-righteous and ignorant man named Woodrow Wilson. He cracked down on the press and had people spying on their neighbors during World War I. He also suppressed accurate information of the 1918 (there's that number again) flu pandemic- the lack of which enabled the virus to spread unimpeded killing more people than the war itself. His justification was that if the public knew how bad the pandemic really was it would hurt morale and the war effort. They say the first casualty of war is always the truth and that certainly was the case here.
You can trace a lot of America's current problems right back to his administration.
I would actually prefer President Bush to this man- that's how lousy he was.
