Backyard finds! 2.11.09
    #11373104 - 11/02/09 09:50 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Some finds in the backyard from yesterday.

Lycoperdon perlatum.

Richoniella pumila.
A secotioid species who's microscopic features link it closely to the Entoloma genus, I was happy to find this specimen with the stipe and columella present as they are not often observed in this mushroom, they can be seen in the cross section images!

Pluteus readiarum.

Laccaria fraterna.

Mutinus borneensis.
A really cool siamese stinkhorn.

I seem to be finding the more unusual finds out of season, enjoy!
inski..

Thanks guys,
When I first saw the stinkhorn I thought it was two fruit bodies side by side, when I had a closer look I realised it was a twin, it will be interesting to see if the other two primordia form twins also, I'll go back tomorrow for another look!

Exceptional camera work inski! The structure of the Mutinus is both beautiful and amusing at the same time.

Are these up around the Kaipara area?

Yes, Nikon D40X.

I agree Karode13, the structure of the stinkhorn is very interesting and beautiful.
These are all found close to the Kaipara harbour, I thought the secotioid mushroom was in the genus Gallacea at first so you can imagine my shock when I viewed spores that agreed with the genus Entoloma, I had no idea there were any secotioid species belonging in the Entolomatacea from NZ until today!

That Laccaria fraterna is really neat, especially the gills. Is this edible at all?

Beautiful pics!

BTW, I would not consider you a pussy if you were afraid to get in that close to those stinkhorns. Man, on some of those stipe pics. I could almost smell those fuckers

These are really great shots, inski. :yesnod:

I always forget how difficult photographing mushrooms can be until I give it a go and end up with blurry pics/bad lighting/a range of other problems. But these are great.
