Bad Genetics
    #11372403 - 11/02/09 10:22 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

I know allot of people use genetics as a pretty well known scapegoat when ever something goes wrong, but I'm starting to believe more and more in it, recently i got some spores from a non sponsor vendor. While doing everything exactly the same, they are performing like complete dog shit compared to other spores used from a sponsored vendor. I usually stick with sponsored vendors but had a few extra bucks laying around so i thought i'd try out someone new. The results with this vendor is extremely sub par, colonization is taking 3x as long as other projects and pinset and fruiting is nothing to be desired. Just curious what other thought, that possibly genetics/performance could be that huge of a difference from vendor to vendor.

even within the same vendor i find it vary s a lot, i have had crazy potent grows, and weak weak grows from the same syringe.

well i will this..

#1 USE SPONSORS

#2 many vendors put TOO MANY spores in the syringes

#3 the only way to rule out genetics is to isolate on agar

#4 i have had syringes from the same sponsor perform differently

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

Genetics play a huge role when dealing with multispore because you have no idea what type of myc will show up.

do you think its possible for the vast majority of the genitics in any given syringe to be shit, ive got 5-6 monobuckets all doing teriibly, which are all from the one vendor, where as the other 5-6 buckets from sporeworks are performing well past expectations

i'd assume it would just give you a far greater genetic variation, but really wouldn't this give you just as good a chance at a greater result than a worse one?

thats what i was kinda thinking, even if there was a disadvatage to having to many spores in one spot you would only think it would be an issue with the pf tek, but i still dont see how
