The Prime Directive
    #11368746 - 11/02/09 02:10 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

From Wiki:

In the fictional universe of Star Trek, the Prime Directive, Starfleet's General Order #1, is the most prominent guiding principle of the United Federation of Planets. The Prime Directive dictates that there can be no interference with the internal development of pre-warp civilizations, consistent with the historical real world concept of Westphalian sovereignty. It has special implications, however, for civilizations that have not yet developed the technology for interstellar spaceflight ("pre-warp"), since no primitive culture can be given or exposed to any information regarding advanced technology or the existence of extraplanetary civilizations, lest this exposure alter the natural development of the civilization.

Here is the deal - if we ever become a space-faring civilization we will do what we have always done: take whatever we need if we are stronger; trade if we are roughly equal and run if we are weaker. Repercussions for the other group never comes into the equation.

If we have a generational ship and we need to suck an entire star's energy at the expense of the local flora and fauna, too bad. If we need a huge chunk of an inhabited planet's mineral resources, we will take it.

We will not creep around on little cat feet and sneak in the dead of night so as not to disturb another's culture.

I'd ask for evidence, but then i just had a look around at this planet

Perhaps some aliens once upon a time came here to do the same thing, but then realized we'd already bled the earth dry...

Star Trek fans will note that Kirk & Picard broke the Prime Directive about every fourth episode. Seems they just could not help themselves. :monkeydance:

When you open an OC thread, you should pretty much know by now what to expect, yet you cannot help yourself.

If you were actually funny, I wouldn't have to amuse myself.

I wasn't aware the PS&P required a sense of humor.
