We used to play the 15 minute rule.
If you have someones lighter for 15 minutes without them asking for it you get to keep it. Was fun at the time.
They used to call me 'The Lighter Bandit'.

Haha I'm not that bad.
People who smoked fags were exempt from the game because they get cranky when they don't smoke. Only herb smokers played.
None of the nice lighters were got from that game either. I bought those. Have a look at the rounded ones. They are the infamous 'clippers'.

White lighter myth is an East Coast U.S. thing. I've had strange occurrences happen where I got into some trouble and there being a white lighter present.
I avoid them. It's better to get another lighter and keep peace of mind than a have white lighter and be plagued by subconscious worry.
Terence Mckenna once talked about a linguistic disease in South America that is only existent in that regional tribal culture.. I forget the details.. but basically it's a disease that can only be transmitted by belief and language alone.. Just something interesting to note as it shares some similarities with the white lighter myth and other modern folk lore.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lighter#White_lighter
Quote:
A white lighter, also known as an ivory lighter, especially for older lighters, is a type of lighter that is widely considered by cannabis smokers, in stoner culture, as bad luck. It is said that the use of a 'white lighter' to light a joint will lead to bad luck for the user, including an unfortunate death. It is documented that 4 members of the legendary 27 club (Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, and Cobain) had a white lighter in their possession at the time of their death.[dubious – discuss][9][10]
Origins of this superstition may come from the obvious appearance of soot or ash on a white lighter, indicating that it's been recently used. Another explanation is that many smokers will cover the bowl while inhaling to slow the burn rate or use the end of the lighter to pack the bowl. These both leave telltale burn or ash marks which would be most apparent with a white lighter.
I've never used a white lighter because of a coincidence. I use black and blue ones.

I would imagine it's an east-of-the-Mississippi regional phenomenon seeing as how deeply ingrained it is in the Atlantic South as well, unless someone in California could share?

One of my friends who lived in MS did the same thing with my white lighter. I've heard people from NY, CT, NJ, PA, MS, AL, GA, and FL say white lighters are bad luck.
Stupidest superstition I've heard in a long time.

I do it almost more out of habit. A white lighter has never done anything to me to deserve so much hate, but I just don't use them. Fuck white lighters.

Where I'm at in the midwest it's yellow lighters that "bring bad voodoo". I specifically buy them because people seem to steal them less, and I like to live on the edge, man!

Add VA to the list, lots of people who say White Lighters are the devil around these parts.
I have a friend who is obsessed with Jim Morrison and she won't let anyone use a white lighter in her home, very silly if you ask me.
