Rasputin?  I dunno that's a rather odd question.

Well it doesn't have to be anything historic really, could be something local two months ago.

The stories behind Rasputin or Vlad the Impaler are both pretty fucking creepy/eerie to me

There's a lot of shit but the only thing coming to mind for me right now is Eugenics in the 1920's.

Vlad was pretty creepy and the more creepier thing was that people actually like the way he ruled.

the earliest studies of human anatomy.

for hundreds of years, the only way that scientists or just curious madmen or doctors were able to actually see the inner workings of the human body was to cut open a living person and keep them alive and still long enough to see what was going on inside.

it is kind of an abstract "event" but just imagining the potential thousands or even millions of people that were essentially tortured and maimed, just for the sake of science.
creepy!

Actually yeah I agree with that.  I remember some of the pictures from one of my anatomy textbooks of the old "doctors" just kinda hanging out next to some half cut open kid.  They used to have big guys hold children or other patients down and drug them with ether (if at all) to do live surgeries/patient studies.  And they all had creepy mustaches.

i am truly not trying to incite argument or anything, but why is the rise of christianity creepy to you?

or is that just sarcasm? that really just kind of made me curious...

again not trying to be an ass or anything, I myself am not a religious person, just curious

The Big Bang - there's really no explanation of why it happened and even if you look at both sides (science or creation) it's still weird as hell.

1) the invention of Hell, and the condemnation of everyone to it

umm...creepy ass crazy motherfuckers who are the biggest and most maniacal hypocrites ever and cannot possibly see that and yet they think they are doing the right thing by burning your mother or daughter for heresy?

all gay people are going to hell

anybody who questions this type of thinking is only being tempted by the devil....no, that's not actual sense that's coming to you, that's the devil trying to tempt you away from blind faith

The Crusades?

murdered someone? oh that's OK, pay the pope $200, you'll be forgiven BY GOD

murder someone in the Crusade? in the name of Christianity? Excellent!!! By authority of the pope, you are now forgiven for all previous and future sins. GOD BLESS

ever seen a morbidly obese person scream their lungs out and throw things at "dirty mexicans," just basically minding their own business, for not being Christian (compassionate, humble, and understanding) enough?

i could go on and on and on...just because they don't have suicide bombings doesn't mean they don't get as twisted

very good.

saavy on every level of that explanation, that is why i have grown very far from the organized aspect of "religion" or the business that church has become.

i do still believe in the higher power, as i don't see how some of the things have happened in my life and otherwise without the influence of something greater than myself.

but it is indeed scary, the things that general christianity has created in order to holster its society in a perpetual state of fear for its own "gains".

it is like a patient going to a doctor, only to have the doctor MAKE them sick so that he has a reason to treat them and write them a prescription.
