I think that study about parents has a shallow/surface view of happiness though, as 'day to day' well being. I think people can go through daily life challenges and feel unhappy, but they would consider themselves overall happy. So I think having kids or even taking care of pets brings us a 'spiritual' happiness. For me, overall happiness is spirituality, there is so much crap we have to deal with, including our own desires, but I think letting go and being willing to say at any point 'fuck it', is what this spiritual happiness is and even if we cant be perfect about our desires, having some perspective about them and forgiving ourselves, because materialism is part of being alive as the animals that we are
