State troopers made 124 DUI-related arrests during a Halloween blitz, according to numbers released Sunday by the Utah Highway Patrol.
There are typically 40 percent more alcohol-related fatalities on Halloween when it falls on a Friday or Saturday night, UHP Sgt. Jeff Nigbur said in a news release.
But this year, no one died in an alcohol-related accident, there were no alcohol-related crashes in the Salt Lake County area and no crashes statewide between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday, he said.
"I think we made things a little bit safer," he said, "and that's what we're trying to do."
More than 230 troopers hit the road looking for drunken drivers as part of the operation, and they stopped nearly 1,800 vehicles. Of 124 arrests, 100 were for DUI, nine were for driving under the influence of drugs, and seven were for underage drinking, as well as others for minor offenses.

We had a big ass party on a dead end road off in the woods, the cops road blocked it and a couple of them came down to warn us to have a DD if we left. Then they proceeded to have a beer with us and watch all the people smoke and trip. It was one of the more pleasurable and rational experiences I've had with our officers in Mississippi.
And I asked around and I don't think anyone fucked up and got a DUI, so, I think they may have actually did their job well.

Nice to see police working closely with there community to make it safer and more enjoyable. I've come into contact with more cops than normal in my area lately, but each experience was very pleasant and I ended up having good conversations. If this momentum keeps up and maybe the citizens and police will be good enough friends that they'll refuse to arrest people for unjust laws rooted in ignorance. Then it wont matter what kinda crazy laws crazy politicians make because they wont have anyone to enforce them. Maybe I'm just a dreamer, but I can always hope.

Yeah it is always good to hear the stories of rational and down to earth cops. It's just a shame that, as with many things in life, a small group is ruining the reputation and good name of a larger group. This isn't the case with the police force in every town, but a lot of times it is. Glad you had fun in Mississippi.
