How would you prepare the oven for sterility? Oven cleaner or just heating it up for a little while and letting it cool? It seems like using an oven would would be slightly difficult (especially since mine doesn't have a light.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It almost seems like you would be more prone to risk contam in the oven than in open room...

The second you open the oven doors, you can almost guarantee that possible contamination will enter your oven.

Glove box is so cheap and easy to do than there is no reason to not have one.

I just read an older post about a guy using an upsidedown table with a sheet over the legs (like a little fort kids play in) and spraying it down with lysol on the inside, sprayed his clothes, gloves, breathing mask, hair, everything, and just works inside that. Much easier than an oven, and maybe not as technical as a glovebox but pretty interesting nonetheless.

Think about all that black shit on the bottom of your oven.

I just made a still air box out of a cardboard box with all the seams taped up holes cut for my arms and plastic wrap taped over the top. Has worked perfectly so far!

i have used the oven tek with success before but it could have been dumb luck. the reason it works is the heat pushes the mold, dust, ect up and away from the inside cause heat rises, but u have to be careful not to burn the fuck out of your self. I cant seem to find the tek so here is the short version.
you heat up the oven after cleaning it and let it cure for 30 min or so to kill anything inside then open the door and and leave the heat on medium or low now u want to work on a rack so pull one abt mid way up in the oven out half way so it can cool a little but u have to work quick cause your jars and everything will heat up do your g2g or what ever your doing. but it duz work just outdated (not recommended) now i think. i used it years ago.
i recommend using a shmuv box, flow hood ,or glove box all pretty easy to make with little money.

Moving air, unless in the form of laminar flow, while doing sterile work will pretty much doom you to failure if you have any kind of spore load in your house.
Some idiot posted the oven tek years back because he got lucky and it 'worked'. It doesn't.
