Teks on Sterilizing Syringes

I've heard of so many ways to sterilize syringes, but no one seems to agree on a method. I don't really want to throw them in the PC because I don't really know what the best way is. Do I take apart the syringe? Do I fill it with water?

What is your method? Is there a way of simply sucking up boiling water? I tried sucking up iso alcohol...

Boil water for a while. then suck it back in the syringe wait 1 min and expel do that 4-5 times. then on the last one keep the water in it cap the syringe and let cool down at room temp

I PC them in foil. Put a cap on, and it stays sterile inside until you use it.

half hour at 15 psi? I've been doing the boiling water routine, but the PC sounds better, especially for several at a time.

At least 30, I just put syringes or needles or caps or whatever in with whatever batch of jars I'm cooking.
If it's quarts of grain, they'll get 120@15 psi. Never had any of these things melt, but it's all brand name medical-grade stuff.
YMMV, user assumes all risks, void where prohibited, etc.

I rinse with hot water to remove any sediment/gunk.  Wrap in tinfoil and PC along with grains.

I put 10cc of water and some air in the syringe, wrap it in foil and PC it with my jars

Hmmm. So in that case they get a full 90 minutes. I would have been concerned about them  warping, if not melting. I'd think 20-30 min would work fine otherwise.

Sure, if it's empty and the plunger is all the way in, it's all surface. You could sterilize it in like 15 minutes, probably.
But I just keep a few extras on hand, and then whatever is dirty goes into that day's PC run.

I've been re-using the same syringes for about a year now, PC'd 5 or 6 times each at least and no visible/apparent damage yet.

hmmm.  I've been PC'ing my big ones (60ML) wrapped in foil and I get slight warping.  The plungers are a little leaky and the needles don't go in totally straight. 

I've had better luck with boiling water...haven't had a contam yet...but never say never off course.

If you want to have sterile water inside the syringe, I would go with the boiling water method. But for empty sterile syringes I use my PC.

i wouldnt worry too much about having air in it when sterilizing. U usually cant suck up all the spore solution from shot glass anyways.
I boil in a little camping pan thing.  I dont like to use big pots..  I take the needle and caps off and boil it in drinking water at high temp.  Expell and suck in the water in a few times; switch off between two syringes. Dont leave them sitting for too long on a bare metal spot cause they will melt. Use a tweezers or needle nose pliers to grab the needles from water and put back on syringe.  Shake the cap to get access water out or u may get ur spores wet when u go to scrap the print. u can hold it a few cms above water when doing this.  Work in the steam if u have to



Put needles on a papertowel, wrap it and put it in a bag to cool..

Then i think u got it from here. Once cool wipe shot glass, let dry and do your thing.

Any difference observed between brands of syringes and how they hold up to repeated sterilization, esp. PC?

Ive used the ones in the pics for a couple years at least, but all of my syringes have been used several times.. Ones in pics i got at feed store. They all have a burnt/ melted spot from stove and one is a little warped; but are all still in use. The ones from sporeworks have big gauge needle and are awesome to use.  Spores get stuck in the nose of after several uses, but i really doesnt make a difference cause it all gets sterilized anyways.
