There's a great method for growing with whole brown rice. It's done with a pressure cooker, 1/4 cup rice, and 1/3-1/2 cup water.  Make sure to put tinfoil over the jars in the pressure cooker so you don't add extra moisture.

I quite like this method because after the substrate stops producing fruit, you can eat the "rice cake" for 2 or so trips.

i'd just stick with the PF TEK. using brown rice flour. easier for the myc to consume.

Im pretty sure to use the rice you just cook it like it states in the instructions, then you just need to load up your jars and sterilize. I have some jars that i was bending up brown rice and my blender just stopped when it was half way done. So i just mixed that with verm and the jars are doing great.

you should just make the extra effort and  do the pf tek. get some vermiculite, grind the brown rice in a blender and do 1 part water, 1 part brf, and 2 parts vermiculite

It's much harder to keep the moisture right when boiling outside of a pressure cooker, but it can be done.

when the caps start to open up. But once they start to open its still good to give them a day to fully open up. they wont start dropping their spores right away so no worries

No you want to harvest before they drop spores so you don't have to deal with spores everywhere.  I usually harvest as the veil begins to tear.  Of course letting the spores drop isn't a problem since they will grow a little more after they reached maturity, its just plain messy.

some people like to pick them as soon as the veil breaks some people leave them for another day or two. It doesnt hurt your casing or cakes to let the spores drop. For the purpose of printing you would want to take then off within a reasonable amount of time of them opening up

EXACTLY. Cook the rice first, then fill the jars, then sterilize. If you try to fill the jars with dry rice with water and sterilize/cook at the same time, it will be a mess. Trust me--I've tried it both ways. Cook rice first, then load the jars, then sterilize.

Normally cooked rice would be too wet usually. I cooked some the other day in a PC, 1kg got to 2.25kg when cooked, so 125ml per 100g rice. Even that was too wet for my liking so I added 50g of verm and PC'd it, it is now shakeable.

I have another rice jar which is growing a bit but still seems to wet for me, and I used a lower water ratio than called out for in the 9er tek.

I hate all these vague teks using volume measurements for compressible substances. If people just stuck to grams it would be far easier.
