BRF cakes at 100%, a few questions..
    #11361366 - 11/01/09 10:02 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

I have five BRF PF jars that are either fully colonized, or 99.9997% colonized.  Someone mentioned turning the jars over to get the myc to web out quicker across the bottom.  Two of the five jars have "let go" of the cake and the cake has fallen from the bottom of the jar to the top (since they are upside down).  I believe I remember in the DVD I had heard RR mention letting the cakes sit in the jars seven days after 100% colonization.  What is everyone's experience with this?  Thanks in advance!

Yes, make sure you let them sit a week or so after colonization so they can get a better grip on the mycelium and be stronger so you get stronger fruits.

I have a question to add.. once they are fully colonized.. should they stay at the 80-85 degree mark for the week after

or should they be brought down to room temperature (75 degrees-ish) for the week

For fruiting, bring it down. For final consolidation, I don't think it matters much. Do what is convenient.

You don't want to turn the jars over. By turning BRF jars over you're allowing all the moisture in the jar to settle in the vermiculite which is supposed to act as a contamination barrier when dry.

The mycelium will colonize the bottom, just be patient.
