here's a track I wrote today.

I feel like something is "missing", but I can't quite pinpoint it... I'll probably update this thread w/ diff. versions at least once. :P

i would appreciate any comments or ideas.

*edit: i'm going for a lowfish meets bibio sorta vibe here. i figured i might as well mention my intentions

hope everybody had a happy halloween and scared the hell out of something.

How about a synth line going over the top of it or going steady in the background?

I have an idea in my head if I could only get it out.

Or reverbed sounds of water droplets in some sort of pattern...

Nice though:thumbup:

thanks jim. =]
I think those are both good ideas.

I will have to play with some synth leads later. The track just seems kind of empty in the beginning section (and the end, but that part I want to sound kind of bare). It's a bunch of picked rhythm parts, but no true lead to speak of (until the box-scale riff comes in around 1:16) .

maybe today I'll go out and record some small waves... or maybe (with luck) there will be a small rain and I can record that.

There are background sounds of me digging holes (planting a shrubbery), but it doesn't really add that much atmosphere. Mostly it just sounds like extra snare hits off of the rhythm. I might take it out. :P

Did you say before that you synth all the guitars?

No sir. The guitars are real. I use a baby taylor acoustic & and a real .... modest.... j reynolds electric. And some stomp boxes.

The keys & drums are all midi.

GTFO: truly that is my chart-topper. And it's informative, too. :yesnod:

I second the synth line.

Heavy part would kick ass with some heavy lofi style drumming. Ya know heavy four on a ride and some snare and kick drum action.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to work on a synth part tonight.

I'll see what I can do about some live drum action.. it might be a challenge with my set up... but it is a damn fine idea. the drums during the heavy part are pretty whack right now.

Jimtown: I recommend taylor, they make a a great acoustic guitar. The J reynolds, I cannot recommend. The tuning pegs barely work, the high E string will always break if you even tune it NEAR a high E, and it's a pain in the ass to restring. I have to poke the strings out with a metal stick. It sounds hollow, and only one of the pickups works. It was $80 when I bought it a few years ago. I'd probably have to pay someone to take it from me at this point.

The drums sound akin to something on that Eric B and Rakim album whatever it's called cash money or something

The electric doesn't sound bad at all considering.

I played a squire strat at the weekend and the thing was easier to play than my regular strat.:mad2:

The neck is too straight and after playing the squire I feel I need another. Argh.
