It's a case of misidentifcation, I believe Panaeolus subbalteatus were to blame in these cases. True P. foenisecii(brown spore print) are not psychoactive... at all, not even in large doses.

The mushrooms in question were panaeolus castaneifolius as the artcle states, which also included drawings of the species which macroscopically fit that of panaeolus castaneifolius.
It, not like I didn't deposit any specimens. Its like hundreds of people have picked Panaeolina foenisecii all over the world and deposited tjhem and then about fifty mushroom books al listed them as halucinogeic/poisonus. The Castaneifolieus were already analysed and written on years before by Ola'h and others.
I ate those and my wife ate some P. caeocystis fromthe year before. We had good times

I was referring to MJ as a true scientist. I like hearing stories about scientists who get involved w/ their work. I've always been one to try to get to know what I am working on.
We made some Banana esters once. I decided to taste my project. The ester burnt my tongue. I smelled bananas for a weak.
I enjoyed the humor of your post. I am sorry my reply was not humorous enough for you. Please do continue to post light hearted threads, they keep things entertaining.

I am not sure what he meant either. I guess I could have fit it into two posts.
I thought it was funny as well.

Here is the actual quote from my paper with Merlin fromthe yearbok of Ethnommedicine and Consciousness.
"In 1977, Allen (1988a) collected a species of Panaeolina in Oxnard, California which macroscopically resembled P. foenisecii; later, Allen bioassayed this species and found that the mushrooms (40 fresh specimens weighing 52 gm) were definitely psychoactive. No voucher specimens were saved for examination. It is possible that the specimens collected in this case were misidentified by Allen and were actually Panaeolus castaneifolius (Murr.) Ola'h=Panaeolina castaneifolius (Murr.) Smith, or a similar related variety of Panaeolus. Allen (1988b) also reported that two elderly ladies were intoxicated by Panaeolina foenisecii in Portland, Oregon."
Here are the images from my website posted here, hopefully

B:
and C:
My confusion was that they also resembled specimens of Panaeolus olivaceus. I just recently had some analysed by Garz and Stijve and both found no psilocine or psilocybine in P. olivaceus. so now we have otwo positives and two negatives for Pn. olivaceus. I have never sen the castaneifolius but two times since I ate those specimens and never more than a few shrooms were evident in a lawn.

If you checked my articles section at my site then you wold see the images whicha re in all of my published papers .
mj
The drawings were from specimens collected in Hawaii and identified from Switzerland with materials on deposit there and compared with mine were Panaeaolus castaneifolius and were macroscopically identical or close to what I ate in ORange Counrty.
