Just killed a bunch of ants.
    #11360468 - 11/01/09 01:20 AM (7 years, 11 months ago)

They are swarming in my bathroom. First time I had an infestation. I crushed some of their tiny lives out with nary a thought of their dreams and aspirations nor the emotional impact ant #139,212's death would have on his family and friends.

I sent them to Antwerp. Where they will get to listen to Carlos Antana for all eternity. I dissolved them back into ant-imatter.

Does this make me an evil person? Should I rec-ant my ways?

Ants are wonderful creatures.. I try to support them in my living environments. However ,if you leave food easily accessible, they will find it. Ants became a problem when they would eat our cat's food, and then our cat would not eat it (he didnt like ants). So they wasted our food.
But thats only a problem if you need to leave open food around.
also, i heard of ants that ate a friend's computer. I don't know how to believe this but he was complaining about ants for weeks.
Overall, I think ants should stay.
I like to put my hand in a garden ant swarm and have them nibble me.. ahah its a strange feeling. watching them try with all their might to bite through.. failing.. and every now and then a soldier ant finds his way on and it becomes more noticable, the pincing.
Dunno bout the ants you live with though..

When I lie down on the grass in the summer time, the ants like to run up my legs and arms and on to my face. I am grateful for the experience of tolerance.

Give that a go with fire ants - or better still, bulldog ants, then report back.

they're basically just drones.
moving about an established routine that's been set for them since the dawn of their existence; therefore making their lives meaningless in the grande scheme of things.

..nothing like our great meaningful spontaneous adventurous human lives.

but ants.. sure they may hold consciousness but it would never be free and self-aware, being attached to a brain so small and limited solely to survival. you're actually doing them a favor, breaking their consciousness free of their small-brain prison so they can go on to experience other, greater perspectives of reality.

Their lives aren't meaningless. They're an essential part of most ecosystems.

But I think there are probably enough kicking around that we can spare a few

Ants can kill too! So watch out, they have an eye on you now!

BBC - Natural World: Ant Attack (2005)
English | 720p HDTV | AVI | XviD 1280x720 25fps | AC3 384Kbps 2CH 48KHz | 00:42:54 | 1.29GB

Documentary that looks at the world of the African driver ant, a sinister army of 20 million sisters.
It thrives by ravaging the forest, killing every living thing it can pin down and slice up - a super-organism that dominates a parallel and often violent world where miniature monsters roam.

What if all of the things we think make us human--our thoughts, our feelings for our loved ones--is all pointless bullshit? After all, even insects live, eat, have sex and build things, and they do it all without "minds" or "souls" or even a simple high-five to celebrate a job well done. So all that stuff we think makes us special... what does it matter?

While our feelings may be pointless in the big picture they aren't pointless to your experience of living.

Calling them bullshit is a value judgment. Even if they are ultimately pointless calling them bullshit is giving them a point. A point of view.
