Do these cakes look like they're doing okay?
    #11360175 - 11/01/09 12:03 AM (7 years, 11 months ago)

Hey all,

Day 6 has passed since these cakes were put in the FC, and I'm getting a bit concerned.  I assumed these bulbs of white mycelium popping up everywhere were knots, but maybe I'm wrong.  The darker sections of mycelium (where the "knots" aren't) almost look like a light grey color instead of bright white, which is a concern, so your opinion on how these cakes look would be appreciated.

2 cheapo analog hygrometers were calibrated and placed in the FC and both read 98-100 percent RH.  Temps staying around 75F.  Fanned 4 or 5 times a day and misted 4.

All good, or does it look like there might be possible issues?

Thanks!

looks great just Mist them 3-4 times a day and fan them right after. Fan around 5-6 times a day if you can. :sun:.  The myc growth is normal after being birthed dunked and rolled

Give it more fresh air exchange (FAE). Put a fan in the room blowing away from it, but oscillating.

Also, grab a cake and smell it. Does it smell mushroomy/earthy or spoiled/rotten/fermented?

Do you have it on a 12/12 light schedule?

Yep, they're being fanned about 5 times and misted 4.

So are those white bulbs of mycelium popping out everywhere actually knots?  Or just general mycelium growth?

Yes, roughly a 12/12 schedule, and the cakes smell mushroomy with a little hint of sweetness, which has been present since birthing.

I agree, instead of the fan you can manually fan it too if you don't have an electric fan. Just use the lid after you mist.

Gotcha.

When they pin you still mist 3-4 times a day but stop misting the cakes directly, right?  And keep fanning the same also?

Thanks guys!

Just mist as usual, point the mister up so it "rains" upon your FC, then fan.

It rains all the time in nature, and sometimes during an entire mushroom's existence.

Keep misting the pins even directly and give them a good fan afterwards works like a charm. Right now a huge pinning trigger is water evaporating off the cakes so keep misting them and fan afterwards as well:thumbup:
