Temperature/Humidity
    #11357773 - 10/31/09 01:58 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

I know the optimal temperatures for mushrooms to grow are 70-80 for mycelium, and 80-90 for fruiting.  I was wondering if I could fruit at 76 degrees instead?  I don't mind if growth is slower.  Would they refuse to fruit at 76 degrees?

-EDIT-

I'm using the method on this website http://www.a1b2c3.com/drugs/mus02.htm

I'm using a wide jar with a great seal, and I only filled it with organic brown rice (no verm).

My substrate is 2 inches tall.  The jar is square, and about 5 inches wide each way.  I have 4 inches of jar above my substrate so I can grow them in the jar, and use it as my terrarium.  As far as I know, a fully colonized substrate can defend itself from infection quite easily, so once it's colonized, I'll be opening it in the bathroom with the shower running to increase the humidity, and then sealing it.  I'll be doing this 3 times a day for air exchange and to maintain high humidity.

Of course my method isn't ideal, but will it produce fruit?

My mycelium is about the size of a quarter at the moment.

Awesome, thanks!  Know about humidity?  Obviouly it should be high, but how low can it get without them dying or refusing to fruit?  It's my first grow, and I'm trying to avoid any extra equipment for now.

I've read that 76 is actually the ideal for fruiting. Ive had mine as low as the low 60's and they still fruit fine. As far as humidity more is better I hear, But ive had cakes fruit well with the humidity in the mid 80's. I'm sure thats not ideal, but it still worked for me.

:laugh:just hand mist with a bottle. thats pretty cheap equipment. and RH will be near 100%. higher the better. and i fruit at pretty low temps and everything works out fine

Actually 75/78 F is the best temp for fruiting. 90 could be way too high and could turn your FC in a better place for contams.

Cubes are sub tropical, so 76 will do them right the whole grow cycle.

My FC is at a constant 70 and fruits fine. RH is always near 100

When fruiting 76F is around optimal. Relative humidity around 95% for cubensis
