go for it, i like backpacking but it is a 3 or 4 hour drive to get to any decent trails.  So every once in a while, my friend and i will head out to our city and camp on one of the farmer's land, we practice no trace, but it is a lot of fun, and a  good getaway for a night

Ahh nice little adventure man im hoping to try something like this in summer either on my own or with a friend or two. I like Chronick's idea with the hammock and tarp if your traveling alone.

Cant wait

i agree, the hammock is a nice thing, but if it rains you are stuck in the hammock, not me, my big tent is great, i can stand up in it, move around, and all my gear fits nicely in it, i can even do crafts, and exercise in it if it rains for a week,i wont give it up, to each his own, good luck on your adventures, i plan on going again as soon as it warms up:thumbup::sunny:

Just get a camouflage rain fly/tarp to put over your shit
Hammocks are ok.. great for backpacking in the warmer months.

yes I fucking  my hammock.
I have an extended rain fly over my hammock, so even if it's pouring, I can still spread it all out and have plenty of space under it. Use my hammock as a seat too.

Only thing I hate about it is camping in the cold. I can't afford an underquilt yet so I have to lug this bulky foam pad to put under me and it does the job of insulating.. but it's not as comfortable as the naked hammock, and it doesnt cover all the sides so sometimes my shoulders will come off the pad or something and get cold spots. Can't wait to get an underquilt... that effectively turns that hammock into a warm cocoon and nest and shelter all in one!

It's ideal for stealth camping IMO, as well as leave no trace.
I admit I do enjoy some of the more roomier comforts of a tent, you can do thing in them you can't do in a hammock, things like have multiple people, play games in them, etc. But you can do things in a hammock you can't dream of in a tent.. camping over a creek for example, but I wouldn't dream of using a hammock in arctic conditions. So I guess it depends on the application.

Tents pros: roomier. ground is your insulation.
Cons: Puddles, sticks, rocks, water, heavier, bulkier

Hammocks pros: camp virtually fucking anywhere, excellent stealth setup, leave no trace. Lightweight, versatile.
Cons: cold weather, having to buy accessories for colder weather, only holds 1 person, 2 maybe.

Dakota fire holes are the shit!  They'll keep you warm, but since the fire is in a hole in the ground, not much light will be seen.

I wish me and my brother had that kind of relationship
we've both tripped and partied before (me quite a bit harder than him) but it would still be kinda awkward

With a backyard that overgrown, what need is there to go to a state park and camp?

Stealth camping really isn't that difficult. I guess it's a bigger deal in some parts of the country. Hell I did it in Gatlinburg TN, and was only a half mile out of town.

Just don't be stupid, don't make a lot of racket, and if you encounter people do head back to your campsite. Also make sure to use 'Leave No Trace' practices.

Have fun

Yea LNT is important for this kind of thing. Have fun and good luck haha I hope it works out for you and you get to take day hikes to get messed up/explore yourself. The GPS will be important if you do end up tripping and going on day trips as it will make it so you know you can get back to camp at night.
