Amantia muscaria? I think so...but can't be 100%

Ok i think i found some Amantia muscarias, maybe Amanita muscaria var. persicina?

Im pretty sure they are what i think, but this species is pretty wide ranging from what i read and i want to be sure before i eat them.

They where growing in a patch of about 7 directly under a pine or fir tree, ranging from just sprouting to fairly old, the thing that has me second guessing is the color and i can't get a 100% identification on the bottom of the stipe, it had some tooth like looking structures but they where pretty fragile and alot came off when i pulled them out and from the walk home, they are dark orange to red in the middle fading out to light orange/almost yellow on the older specimens, we do get heavy rain here which could be a reason for the color.

Sorry about the crappy cell-phone pics. If needed i can borrow a friends high-res camera.

Habitat: Wood, growing under what seemed like a pine or fir.

Gills: White.

Stem: Whitish, fairly tough for a shroom, large bulb on bottom it had tooth like structures but they where very fragile and most came off on the trip home

Cap: Red (fading to orange on older specimens)  3-6 inches in diameter.


Bruising: Checked for red bruising, scratched and squeezed stems and gills they only turned brown

Location: Picked in Washington

Hmm, but it's still an edible amantia, right? I was planning on enjoying these with some friends on Halloween if i can get a few more positive identifications.

Amanita persicina does not occur in the PNW.

You mean dry them very thoroughly so the ibotenic acid converts to muscimol, right?

well thats if you're eating it for it's um.. "active" properties. as an edible it must be parboiled
