The Great List of Ways to Use Psychedelics
    #11355428 - 10/31/09 02:29 AM (8 years, 24 days ago)

I've always wondered what psychedelics do, and I have my own theories and experiences, but I've noticed that the variety of ways psychedelics are used is vast. I thought it would be good to compile a list.

1. Terrence saw psychedelics as things that removed the barriers put up by language.

2. Shamans see them as ways to connect with the spirit world/astral plane - use tends to be by the shaman or a couple other people

3. Anne Shulgin seems to see there most important aspect as bringing up Jung's shadow and the dark night of the soul

4. Grof sees them as non specific amplifiers of emotional content, and also has some interesting Freudian interpretations (rebirthing for example)

5. The Santo Daime church and other syncretic churches use them as a means to connect with jesus in a large communal setting.

6. Many people use them at concerts to create incredible perceptual experiences

7. Western psychologists see them as psychological tools, either with small doses and talk therapy or large doses for an inward journey.

8. Psychonauts use them to simply explore the altered states from an observational perspective.

What else?

As a tool of introspection, to help you think about the direction of life, attitudes, etc.  Which I suppose is 7.

We are always acting on what has just finished happening. It happened at least 1/30th of a second ago. We think we're in the present, but we aren't. The present we know is only a movie of the past.
