People on TV

My dad was watching one of those morning news shows. I was walking by and stopped to watch for a minute to get a free dose of fake sugar coated media b.s.
So they all these anchor people are sitting around on their couch talking about PETA (the animal rights group), and the suit they filed against a Dairy campaign. There was a dairy commercial made that showed all these cows in a big sunny farm field (singing to each other about how wonderful dairy is). It was advertising cheese and how great it is. So the PETA group was pissed cuz they make it look like the cows are actually treated to fields like that, when they are really cramped into "grassless lots" and pumped full of hormones and shiet, and are just living in horrible painful conditions, etc.
So here are these news people just laughing it up. "Lighten up PETA, it's just a commercial", one of the guys says. "Cows are meant to give milk" (obviously missing the point)... All the others giggle in agreement. Like that one bitch that got such a facelift it looks like her skins gonna just rip off.
I think its sick how many people will just be like "Oh, its nothing, those PETA guys are nutball hippies. They must be cuz these upstanding news anchors are just laughing it off."
It's like people see the suit and tie and the fact that they're on the big screen means that they MUST know what they're talking about.
I think PETA has a very valid point... People do think that what they see on television is how it is, cuz what else do they have to go by??? It's not like people actually investigate the situation themselves. The underlying messages are 'look how happy these cows are in their big spacious fields'
It's just a commercial to someone living in the spectrum of 'Oh, President Bush is a thoughtful man, he says nice things about the American people.' In other words a fucking dream world. If you're not blind you'll see EVERYTHING has a real cause and effect on a global spectrum. Even a 'silly commercial'.

In reply to:

Everybody I know, with the exception of my three year old daughter, understands that the commercial isn't real. It IS just a commercial, PETA is confirming/creating for themselves the stereotype of being just a bunch of nutball hippies. The PETA people are shooting themselves in the foot on the PR front with such frivolous nonsensical lawsuits.

PETA is evil. Their propaganda is filled with half-truths and outright lies. Especially when it comes to their animal testing bullshit.
There are good animal rights groups, the humane society and the SPCA are both excellent. PETA are fringe nutbars.
I heard an interview with a PETA executive on the CBC once, they asked him if there was a baby and a chicken in a burning building, which would he save, he said it depends...

When tons of celebrities start flocking to something, you know you've got to be stupid to buy into it... PETA, Scientology, the Grammys...

Damn-it Grav.....see what you did......you're making me agree with Phluck. For that I will never forgive you Just kidding Phluck
PETA is the most ridiculous organization ever formed. Most of their hypocrisy is horrifying. They fight in the name of defenseless animals by hurting humans. I love all animals and believe they shouldn't be unjustly tortured, however I have no problem whatsoever saying that human life is more important than animal life.
Regardless of your religous beliefs, I think human advancement at the cost of animal life is and should continue to be an acceptable practice. If you had a daughter dying of cancer but there was a treatment being developed by experimentation on animals....I doubt any PETA member would shun the treatment.
I don't believe in hunting for the sake of putting a head above your mantle but if it is for food and other uses then I am all for it. Remember, we are part of the foodchain as well as the lion who kills the gazelle.
If a thousand baby chicks must die to save a human then I say bravo.
DISCLAIMER Remember...I am not condoning the needless torture or killing of animals or pseudoscienentific experimentation.....I love animals too but I love humans more. To hell with PETA

Who says being religious is being good? Fucking brainwashed bastard! I swear, almost everyone I encounter theze days thinks this same way. The younger generation seems to be a bit smarter thow......good thing.

Yes the younger generation might actually be abandoning religion more than in the past. Religion has generations of ups and downs. I myself am starting to question religion. It is kind of brain washing...

Hrmm.. Ill admit I know next to nothing about how the PETA group actually works, but I do think there is alot of animal abuse going on that is unacceptable, and if PETA is trying to stop or reduce it, then hey, I'm on their side (in that respect), even if they are nutballs... im glad theyre getting in everyones face.. any change for animals is probably good change
but thanks for letting me know about the possible lameness behind them, I may have to investigate it more but I doubt Ill remember to care...
and in reply to Evolving, I know people realize that it's done all mass produced and factory like, but I doubt they have a real idea of how nasty some of this shit is... Maybe they've heard rumors about it, but I think it makes them more comfortable to stay ignorantly bliss so they wont feel guilty, and the media is happy to keep them there with their shiney advertisements.

What was the subject again? Right...people on TV, well, in order to get where they are at, on the front lines of the mass media, propaganda machine, had to basically be mindless sheep to begin with. They are probably not somebody who has had an original thought EVER and if they did the quickly suppressed it into the little box they stuff all the other stuff they don't want to look at.
It is their job to conform and to make YOU conform. Your initial feelings of sugar coated BS was good intuition....
Everybody seems to know PETA and what they do. Why is that? Because they have chosen to say and do some really wacky, dangerouse, and totally illegal stuff that has served their puroses well ie bringing light to the way that the culture deals with critters, SO in that regard they have been quite successfull. Perhaps some of the more mainstream groups would not have as much support without them? I personally don't have any feeling either way regarding them. I do know that they way cattle are proccessed is horrendous and are OFTEN not even dead before they are being HACKED to pieces....
-------------------- Support bacteria - they're the only culture some people have.

I don't think humans are above animals in any way, but I don't think that it's really possible to treat animals equally and keep a standard of living anywhere near that of what we have now.

Ever notice when they profile a murderer and they say, "He attended church regularly" as if that automotically makes one a moral person?
There was a preacher a decade ago, who visciously killed his wife. He fooled everyone including his family for a while, then his teenage boys turned him in. Half of the parish defended the minister though the facts in the case against him were overwhelming.

speaking from experience?
Anyway, what gets me is the Petsmart homeless pet drives. You look at the goal of so many million dollars for homeless pets and wonder, what about homeless PEOPLE?
Mass Media is rediculous. 75% of the cost of an item now is in the advertising, which companies just piss money away on because they can, because we still buy the shit. Why? Because its in your face!
I was thinking about this yesterday watching tv. I dont know how many of you know of time warner cable. Lets just say they own alot of shit. Well I swear, from the little time I spend watching the television I must see at least 25 time warner commercials on. Be it AOL, Road-runner, Digital cable, blah blah blah. Its like they wont stop until every person on the planet has their fucking service!!! ahh! ok anyway thats my little rant
