Cover it up and leave it alone for 10 days. Then check it. I know it's hard to do, but it's the right thing to do.

It's looking good, it just needs a little alone time. Busy yourself making syringes, cleaning jars, starting another grow, playing PS2, or ANYTHING but screwing with the tub. lol :goodluck:

for colonizing your bulk sub, it is just like colonizing jars, the mycelium will thrive with a build-up of CO2.  you want gas exchange, not fresh air exchange..

the polyfilled holes  are allowing too much FAE, imo..

My suggestion would be either: tape up the holes, or put the whole FC in a trash bag, and seal it in.  then wait a week and have a look.

WoW. Some people really are retarted. TY gorny. You nailed it on the head. Anyways. Yeah I know I should leave it covered and its the right thing to do. Itss soo hard. Ha. I will try though. Im starting 3 more of theses in a few days. My jars are stacked right now. Time to use em all up!

Looks great. I bet you can't wait until the tub is completely colonized.

If it were cased i'd say it's good to go.  If that's exposed, uncolonized bulk sub, then it shouldn't be open.  You could cause your tub to go into fruiting mode prematurely, leaving uncolonized substrate ripe for contaminates.

You can always modify your tub to have a clear viewport so you can check without opening,

yea 3-5 days is my average. like said if not cased looks good and more time if cased then ready, or i would patch a little and give it a day or 2 then put in the light

I fruit uncased. I read a post RR wrote. Sayin something along the lines of Casings dont help beginners as much. And to dunk your bulk substrate for around an hour or so before fruiting. I only read RR posts when looking for answers. Hes like the yoda of mushrooms. Love you RR. You inspire the shit out of me.

Is it straight coir, or CCV?

I use between 4-6 quarts of rye. spawned to 1brick coir, 1 quart verm and 1 quart coffee.

so that's approx a 1-2 ratio, it should colonize pretty fast.

1 brick of coir = 8 quarts + 1 quart verm + 1 quart coffee = 10 quarts.

6 quarts of rye, assuming they're not completely full = approximately 5 quarts.

10 quarts sub + 5 quarts spawn = 2:1 ratio :-D

If you used 4 quarts (assuming approx 80% full) then it would be 3:1.

whats the highest ratio you can go without too much risk for contams??? anyone?

Re: colonizing monotub [Re: americantradition]

Essentially the higher spawn to bulk ratio means bigger fruits. For ex. 1:1, but I wouldn't recommend going over a 1:4 ratio. Im not positive on this one but I don't believe its a contamination risk situation as much as it is slower colonization. The more spawn you use the faster it will colonize and the bigger your fruits will be. Its just that simple..., anyone agree?
