whats a good newbie strain for gourmet/medicinal?

is there a good newbie strain to start out with for groumet or medicinal mushrooms?  thanks for speedy replies :smile:

so one could take straw and pasteurize it and innoculate with a spore syringe with pleterous? was looking at pf and they need cold temps like 55-60? Any ways to do this indoor or any good links to teks for edibles? thanks

There are different species and strains of oysters. Pleurotus ostreatus needs colder temps, while tropical Pleurotus djamor thrives in warm conditions. Pleurotus pulmonarius is somewhere in between.

Consider elm oysters (hypsizygus ulmarius) too. I've been finding them supieror to pleurotus strains in both fruit size, texture and yumminess :wink:
