An Upcountry HI Hike - Fungaly Flourishing!!!
    #11349942 - 10/30/09 02:03 AM (14 years, 3 months ago)

Just taking a stroll thru a semi old growth forest the other day

found some NICE flourishing areas

a LOT of boletes(id?)

found my first stinkhorn  smelled it...pretty close...might have dipped my nose on it a lil...didnt smell too bad

anyway, just wanting to show some cool hawaiian fungi. not requesting ID's, but if youd like to state what they are for the archives,....do it

And last but not least, these strange creatures.
it was like a puff of SUPER SATURATED mycelium.
it engulfed anything and everything it grew near. look at the pine needles poking through...
if i touched it, it reacted the same as the fuzzy myc at the base of some mushrooms, very delicate, very wet...very fuzzy. these pictures are top, side view, and bottom

what ARE those???

Mahalo
Aloha! :sun:

Can I ask what type of camera you are using? These pictures look really nice.

your boletes are a suillus species

4th row possibly of the Amanita vaginata group

and I think the 5th row is:
macrolepiota procera

and the last is some polypore

yeeee! thanks for some id's

thats a crazy ass polypoor huh?

audiopheonix, its not a nice camera. its nice, but not great. its a cam/video combo, it just does great macro, take multiple shots, avoid flash when can. even if your camera tells you to flash...just hold tight, keep er steady, shoot

The Suillus is S. salmonicolor
The stinkhorn is Aseroe rubra
Your Amanita... Maybe A. marmorata but would have to see a picture of the bulb.
Leucocoprinus sp.
the lbm is Gymnopus menehune.
The white polypores are a Tyromyces sp.
and the orangise-tan ones on wood are Tapinella panuoides
