another question if you don't mind...
after sucking the mycelium into the syringe, how long will it stay viable?...and how much do you use to innoculate each pf jar?

This past Sunday I dissolved ~1 tsp organic honey into ~1/2 pint tap water, covered, sterilized for ~30 mins. After cooling I inoculated w/ ~1/2 cc PB cubies. Put in my dresser drawer. I actually saw white dots overnight, but today, Thurs, is the first day that it was looking really strong. I will be putting it in syringes and inoculating some jars tonite.
I've heard that if you put the syringe in the fridge this lasts more than one month, but I don't really like the idea of keeping liquid culture mycos longer than that. Personal preference.

Won't hurt, of course, but if you're going for max efficiency, 1/2 worked fine for me. I might have even used less than that. I just pushed the plunger until it went down a little. A fat inoc point's worth.

Next I'm going to try 1 whole cc to see if that decreases my colono time. I am also interested in combining liquid culture ingredients; ie, mix some malt in the honey water, or something, to see if that makes faster/healthier mycos.

I made up a jar of honey water using the same procedure as Mister Black, except I used my whole syringe to innoculate jars of wild bird seed. Once the syringe was empty, I sterilized the needle again, inserted it into the honey water and drew the honey water into the syringe. Pumped it in and out 3 times to flush out any spores that may have stuck to the side or plunger. Placed it in a warm kitchen cabinet and had visible myc within 48hrs. This may not always work, I dont know, but it did for me and took very little extra time. Now it lives in the back of my fridge with a lump of myc the size of a walnut:)

That's an even better Spore-Saving option than using just 1/2 cc! excellent.

What are you going to do with a walnut sized chunk of mycos?

I'm using the liquid for experimentation right now. I have pasturized some rabbit poo and shot it with 3cc of the honey water last night. It is my first attempt at using it.

Ok! Now I'm thinking that I'm going to need to know what to do with a walnut sized chunk of mycos myself, now that I look in my drawer and see my jar.

The general liquid solution is quite mycoey. I've already made one syringe of the stuff, which is doing quite well, but i've also got balls in it. These are mothball sized, about 3-5 mm diameter, and are too resiliant to be forced into the syringe. I have a Hospital friend coming over tonite with some larger guage needles, but I don't know if they're going to be big enough.

I guess my question is, what is to be done with the honey water solution once it gets chunky? I know I can put it in the fridge to hibernate my mycos, but I still have these big balls that could colonize something pretty well if given the chance. Do I need a glovebox or flowhood to even mess with this area of mycology?
