Chlorophyllum rachodes?
    #11347466 -

Habitat:
Soil under maple, oak, sassafrass, poplar. Northeastern US.

Gills:
White tinged with reddish brown, free.

Stem:
4 1/2 inches long, about an inch wide at the thickest point, hollow. Not changing to red when broken which is what's confusing me. Maybe because they're too dry?

Cap:
4 to 5 inches wide.

Spore print color:
Won't drop, too old.

Bruising:
None except for reddish brown tinges on gills.

Other information:
Smells like musty laundry.

there are few lepiotaceous in that clade but all of then bruise pink or redish on gills  and have the scaly cap all are edible around the world ... :yesnod:
