Oozing yellow/orange bubbles in substate
    #11347418 - 10/29/09 08:58 PM (7 years, 11 months ago)

Nearing the end of the colonization phase, on week 4-5. Noticed these oozing bubbles in a couple jars. Anyone know what it is?

looks to me like metabolites, which is the mycelium's mechanism of fighting bacteria. if that is the case, then there is no prob, just rinse it after birthing.

I think they are fully colonized. Its been almost 5 weeks. What isnt colonized is the top layer of verm. Am I correct?

b/c you dont need it. it will only sufficate the mycl, by not allowing propper ge. if you have your dry verm layer or even micropore tape that will be enough. no need for foil.

it will speed colonization up by
letting the jars breathe

more gas exchange that way

Also unscrewing the lids will help in colonization. I did that with some jars that were stalled a little and they finished in no time. Not to mention the production of myc piss slowed. I did end up with a jar pin though.

no this will only give you a better chance at failure. opening the jars will allow contams to get in.
