Heirarchy of Life
    #1134722 - 12/12/02 08:54 AM (14 years, 2 days ago)

This stems from Gravs Post---"People on TV"

I have no problem assigning an heirarchy on different life forms:

Humans are more important than animals > plants > fungus/bacteria

I am not saying that the others are not important...obviously we all need each other to survive but I think we are the most important in the chain (that whole having a soul thing)

What do you guys think??

Well, I I'd put those animals who are more aware of themselves and others, at a higher part of the hierarchy than those who are'nt. But I do not know the awarness of animals.

Chemkid, What do you mean when you talk about "importance"? Do you mean one has more value than the other?

That is exactly what I mean......human life has more value than a dogs life (to me).

I am not saying that in the grand scheme of the food chain that we are more important.....obviously we all play equal roles. However, I would choose the life of a human over the life of a dog any day. Just as I would choose the life of a dog over the life of a plant any day.

(Please spare me the examples like: what if the plant was almost extinct and there were plenty of dogs....would you still choose the dog?)

There will always be extreme examples on which special case decisions need to be made (this is why we have intelligence).

I see what your sayin. BUt animals feel too. They are capable of feeling love, fear, anger, etc. On the galactic scale were really not that much different than a monkey or dog or anything else really. Were just talking primates that are the one of the most intelligent animals on the face of the earth.

i definitely have to agree with you. in my opinion, a humans life is definitely more important than any animals life. could you imagine if you were trapped in a burning building and a fireman ran in and told you ,"sorry, but i only have time to rescue this animal who is an endangered species" and then ran out and left you there to die? i'm sure there are those out there that would argue that that is a logical decision. when i was living in california, i remember listening to this talk radio host who was known for her off the wall stances on issues. one night, she was complaining about this "dog hotel" that was letting homeless people stay there during the cold months. her arguement was that it wasn't fair to the dogs to force them to share the same house with dirty, smelly homeless people. the poor doggies wouldn't be able to enjoy their vacations and would suffer from mental aggravation. i almost ran off the road. i couldn't believe that someone could actually formulate such an idea. well, that is my two cents anyway.

how have we contributed at all to the rest of the planet? all we do is propogate our own society... and into a more meaningless and useless piece of crap that should have been stopped back when there were less of us. we are a waste of life. we deserve only to feed the earth with our dead bodies, in a pitiful attempt to try to regain the grace of our beloved Mother Earth.
Did I just say that? Oops. I love you.

Wow, what a bleek view of existence you have.....I would hate to live with myself the way you do. My questions to you is: How has any lifeform contributed to the planet. Every lifeform acts out what is in it's nature. I pity you and your sorrowful outlook on everything. I hope you find joy soewhere in your life.

GoldStein: Yes I have made up my mind. I would bet money that most everyone feels this way as well. It is PC to take the side of poor helpless anilmals like cute little fluffy but these animals can neither give nor understand genuine love.

That alone is reason enough for me.

(Someone go ahead and tell me how their pet gives genuine love....I know it's coming. I believe animals definitely have a sense of affection but it is mostly instinctual or learned or training)

um, that was part joke. i am happy. im ecstatic every moment i am aware of life (i try to make myself aware of every moment of life, but its hard, heh)

i do think we all deserve to die. animals have contributed a lot to life on earth. and none of them succumb to the foolishness that has taken us prisoner. how many animals do you see destroying each other in a fruitless battle for land, eh? everybody has something to contribute, but we more than cancel that out by taking away so much from everyone else.

Are you kidding me, there has been tons more deaths in the animal kingdom than there has been by humans over land. Animals are extremely territorial. They will fight to the death over mating rights, territory rights, food....just like humans.

Trillions and trillions of lives are lost every day in battles of different fugi and molds. A competing mold will wipe out entire colonies of others in the fight for food and light and moisture (this is the shroomer right).

Why are we so keen on saying how good and just the animal kingdom is. Becasue when the lion kills a competing male or a gazelle it isn't on the six o' clock news. All animals kill, fight and steal for survival.

but animals do it for survival. we do it because we want more more more. we deserve to die. im signing off now. sorry if you feel the need to prove me wrong. i hope it passes. dont get me wrong. i love people. they're great. but they're ignorant. and ignorance is deserving of death. and im no exception. im part of the destruction of the beautiful earth that gave me life.
