FIRST FLUSH (harvested)!! Updated (11/6)

Birthed this baby (my first) last sunday (4 days ago). I know the pics are shitty but do those look like pins in the making???! Im so stoked! :bigjoint:





Little brownish bumps in the middle of the cake...

might be pins but i cant tell from the pic. try backing up a little then u can crop the pic down when it is in focus.

UPDATE

So even though its only been 2 days, these pins have barely grown at all. They're definitely a little bigger but only by like a millimeter, if that.

I see posts where people show big pins that pop up in like a day. So are these pins normal or are they growing really slow??

just because you see a pin it can take up to a week to get the full pinset and then start to grow

I think theyre pins but idk why i dont see em poppin out with reddish caps like the others, which popped up in 24 hours... Are they aborts or somethin?

You've got some small mutants going on there, those are actually pretty common. They may get bigger, they may not.

These babies shoot up so fast! First flush ever, 1/4 pint cake, multispore cambos... check it :cool:







I know the pics kinda suck. But I was wondering if these look normal or kinda small. I was expecting them to grow taller before the caps got so mature. That one you can see is already opened up... should i pick it??

Oh! K good, I thought it had something to do with my conditions, so that makes me happy haha. So when should i pick em? I want em to get as big as possible. I know its hard to tell but does it look like I can wait another 24 hours?

yes and longer  48 hours just pick them as they are ready for you. but some will say pick them early cuz they will get weaker but who care you grow so just eat more

So I just harvested my first flush ever. I'm not sure what to do now.

Firstly, theres still pins and mini shrooms that i dont really how old they are, if theyre still growin, or aborts. They're in the pics. Should I pick those??

Also I ripped up some mycelium when pickin the shrooms and there's some bruising... how bad is this?





Also, can i run my shrooms under water to clean em??

I just opened up another jar that hadnt fully colonized and this is what i found:



I'm pretty worried cuz that black shit doesnt look right and its sittin in my kitchen. I didnt see this on any other cakes tho...

It probably didn't colonize because of that nasty black stuff. Looks like mold of some kind. I would toss that jar outside or in a trash bag ASAP.

some are aborts but i cant really tell you wich from here. just dunk with the pins or pick all off. if you leave them keep an eye on them and if they dont grow some will some wont then pick the ones off that dont. with cakes it is not a big deal to get the aborts early you will see them rot before it is a big deal for the cake

get that out now. it WILL spread and you wont se the spores floting around. throw away and take the bag out side

Shit! That was just chillin on a paper towel on my kitchen counter for like 10 or 15 mins... right next to some cakes dunking and on the other side of the kitchen im pasteurizing coir...

Am I fucked??? someone please tell me im not completely fucked...

I just opened another and found the same shit! Its around the same place, right where it didnt finish colonizing. Its strange tho cuz its almost like it appears after i take the cake out and look at it for a sec and its like all of a sudden black spots pop up in here and there almost like a bruising but obviously not. i have one more jar that didnt finish colonizing idk if i should even bother opening it...

when a jar stops colonizing it is usually a contam. that's why we cut it off early so you can save the cake. it was probably extra moisture pooling at the bottom of the jar

alright u gotta help me out here. this is the last jar. normally i would not think theres a contam there. but now that i saw that black mold i think every little spot of black is mold. im pretty sure these (not the one in the pic before) are just dark pieces of verm. i pulled one off of the cake below and its hard and shiny, like a little stone. and this was what made me just toss my last cake.

am i seeing shit??? or do i really have black mold everywhere?

i thinks so too. what would happen if you spawned cakes with a little mold in them to substrate hypothetically? Would it just not colonize of potentially fruit and have seemingly normal, but infected mushrooms?? I'm all paranoid now...
