Changing Facts For Feelings
    #11345181 - 10/29/09 03:04 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Taking Responsibility For Our Feelings

We need to learn to separate facts from our interpretation of them.
It is a simple process of substituting periods for commas.

We use a comma to pause in an unfinished sentence for example.
We insert a point when our thought is completed.

What is the relationship between facts and feelings?

Facts are just that. Feelings are not facts.
Can a fact exist by itself or does it always need to be accompanied by a feeling?

What we tell ourself about facts will determine how we feel.
From within our core self we see and hear facts and use periods to separate them.
From within our wounded self we use commas to connect feelings to facts.

EXAMPLE:

Fact with comma => leads to false belief => leads to self-abandonment

I don't have a boy/girlfriend, because i'm not lovable. => I am not lovable. => Start drinking to forget the issue.

Fact with period => leads to loving action

I don't have a boy/girlfriend. => Next time i'll start a conversation.

Using commas after facts leads to false beliefs and results in unloving actions such as addictions.
Placing periods after facts creates opportunities for learning to love.

It is easy to attach false beliefs to experiences and then to feel miserable.
When we notice this dynamic we can change our thoughts, feelings and life.
Next time we are aware of painful feelings, see where we put the commas after the facts.
Notice what we tell ourself the facts mean to us.
Now replace the commas by periods and feel how we regain strength from our core self.

Yes, it is so simple yet you substituted your feelings for a fact in just the last hour or so in my 'Close Encounters' thread.

Do BEFORE you preach!

Nobody is perfect.
Have some respect for other peoples posts please.
It doesn't mean because i post something meaningful that i have to embody that, now do i?
I'm learning you know?
Perhaps it is useful to other readers.
Would you rather not see useful information just because the poster hasn't fully achieved what it outlines?
That's short-sighted.

Then state where you are at along with your sources. It helps IMO.

No i don't want to tell my life story to everyone.

Look, this is the psychology forum as well. So i post this because it is relevant to the psychology forum. Now someone may well find some resonance in it and that would be a beautiful thing.

Or would you rather not see such posts because they make you become upset, since you can't seem to help noticing everything you disagree with, rather then being supportive of what you get from the actual actical, you just go on and on complaining about every little thing you don't like and feel like commenting on... really, it is a forum to talk about the issues raised not a BlaBla...

Was this thread about emotional over-reaction and how to control it?

The Facts Are
Feelings Are For Girls
Are You A Girl?
Toughen Up
And Face The Facts
Men Can't Cry
If They Do
Women Won't Respect Them
So Toughen Up
But If You Can't Feel Her Pain
You Won't Get The Woman
She Wants A Tough Yet Sensitive Feeling Kind Of Guy
And That's a Fact
Jack

The crew that filmed Chief Teary-Eyes for the commercial left a mess behind.
