I'm not too sure what that means but I'm guessing it has nothing to do with sitting in front of the computer and watching porn.:rofl2:

Right, but what does seed mean?
I was just being a smartass when I made that post, but don't know what that means yet as I have not had time to read the whole thing in the link you showed me. I'm sure it will all become clear once I have time to read it later tonight or tomorrow.

u stand corrected

seeding is when you keep torrents active in your torrent program even after they download so that others can download them from you.  its like the circle of life.

from what i understand (and i could easily be wrong)..theres a loophole in the law that makes it legal to download a bit torrent that would have been illegal with another protocol...as to whether BT is good or bad..the only problem i have with BT is that some files could take weeks to download vs a few minutes over HTML...

BT, if used for illegal things, is illegal. just like any other protocol out there. the only difference with BT is that you are downloading from a "swarm" of people rather than from one person (so no one to sue). its a lot harder to police that system.

true. depends on the file. sometimes its the only way to find some stuff though. it depends on how you plan to use it. if there are a lot of seeds and youve got your client tweeked just right its the fastest thing out there.

i can download the latest release of Ubuntu Linux (700mb) in about 3min. it would take about a half hour over html.

and that is why usenet binaries are still thriving today...no upload and much faster speeds trump torrents, only downside of usenet is most are a pay service, though very nominal, and sometimes you can't find what you need, which is when you can fall back on the torrents.

that just means that the ISP no longer offers the service for free, my old ISP shut it down right when i started using it.  However, there are other free servers out there, though not very fast, and many extremely fast pay servers.  When i had my 15mbps connection and giganews, i could download 2.2MB/second for hours on end...

torrents are slow?  i must be on the wrong train cuz i get things at 2-3MB/s.  the last thing i grabbed was a certain 7 gig file that only took about 45 minutes.

torrents CAN be slow.  sure i often get over 1-2mb/s but if its a rare file, then it doesn't matter how awesome you think you are, it's going to go slow

yeah sometimes they are slow if what you want is really obscure and there is only 2 or 3 people with it on a public tracker.

if its even a halfway decently seeded torrent ill get minimum 300k down.

Well, I'm at a standstil again. Like I said I don't know much about computers.
While running the utorrent speed guide my 'port is not forwarded correctly' and even following all the prompts/guides I still have no idea what to do. If anyone can help me that would be really cool.
