Looking for a new antivirus
    #11344346 - 10/29/09 12:15 PM (7 years, 11 months ago)

I have AVG and it's. okay. Just okay. I'm sure there's better out there. My computer has been sluggish and I noticed new programs running like b.exe, d.exe, pmb.exe. Virus/worm shit. AVG didn't detect them or stop their ads, so fuck them! What are some good ones keeping in mind I only have 1gb of RAM to work with.

avira is free and gets along with comodo firewall.

symantec is good too but you need a license and it doesn't get along with 3rd party firewalls.

Symantec also has a huge footprint, and slows your machine down.  I use avg and have no problems, but i also use spybot, it's free and immunizes you machine against thousands of baddies, and also integrates into your security system.  I used to use mcafee, but you need a license unless you get it cracked or activated through a torrent tracker like pirate bay.  I've also used avast which isn't that bad.

for free antivirus, i also recommend avira.  For pay antivirus, i would go nod32 or Kaspersky.  Or you could go with the best antivirus and get linux.

peace

Thanks. About 10 minutes after I made the thread, AVG went crazy and detected it, then it spread to most of my files. Win32. Fuck you!

I reformatted everything. Time to start torrenting antiviruses.

I'd say save all your important then set up your computer to dual boot with linux and win7 or xp or whatever, then reinstall AVG in tandem with SB: Search & Destroy.

Set a weekly scan schedule to run on the busiest day away from your computer and remember to leave it on that day.  That will take care of your windows side, but if it ever gets FUBAR then you can just boot into linux and use the web at free will or dive into your windows folders and delete and write over malicious files.

Its great, do it!

I read this windows bash the other day and it made me giggle a little bit, don't remember where though.

As for weird processes, iv found AVG free and SB: search & destroy to work very well.

But nothing beats linux.

or on a smaller note osx.

I tired N0D32 and I'm liking it. It even caught a harmless keygen that came with a torrent and wouldn't let me open it. Wait a second, it's working too good. Haha. Thanks, Shroomites.
