Suggestions?
    #11343011 - 10/29/09 02:22 AM (7 years, 11 months ago)

Hello everyone,

I've just started growing some fun mushrooms :mushroom2: ^_^. But I'm very interested in growing some edibles. However, I do not know anything about edible mushrooms

This post is for all you great growers to suggest (if you will) an edible strain (species?) for me to start growing. I'd rather not grow anything on straw logs or sawdust. Are there any edibles that grow on cakes or similar substrate? I'm not entirely averse to growing on logs and such, I'd just rather to stick to something I'm more familiar with. I wouldn't mind some suggestions of medicinal shrooms either (please give me an idea of their medicinal value as well).

I am not asking to be spoon fed, just asking to be given some suggestions. Once I have some specifics I'll do my own intensive research and see what I can come up with.

Thank you shroomery! I know the cult section is incredibly helpful and I hope I am correct in assuming the gourmet section will be equally generous.

oysters 4 sure. they are just as easy as cubes. you can cult. them on just about anything but straw logs work best. i'm actually looking for some more spores myself.

look at the descriptions on the sporeworks site and it'll tell you the difficulty level, substrate, and temps. that way you can get a better idea of which will fit YOUR conditions. i keep looking there myself and then i forget witch i was planning on. lol.

i agree oysters are your best bet for just starting edibles
they are super easy, grow on damn near anything
they look good and taste good too

one thing tho they are very C02 intolerant
they need tons of fresh air

or else you will have long skinny stems
with tinny caps
