 I Hate Green Mold!!!

im hella pissed.....i got a good amount of rye jars colonizing but every time i case one, it gets contaminated with green mold. I colonized one casing all the way and fruited it but when it started to pin....green showed in a whole corner....i need to know someway to prevent green mold specifically....i heard something about cat litter?...

Sounds like your casing isn't pasteurized properly.

haha, I hear ya man... One of my trays just got hit with the green devil.
I've never really had any kind of contam except cobweb. Green mold is a bitch.

pasteurize your casing better and sanitize the house and every thing u can with mild bleach water i spray my house down once a day with the stuff. like 1:10 bleach water.

i am usinge pure verm. as casing layer and....is it bad to spray lysol and bleach in the same area at the same time?

Bleach?!? wtf... You dont need to spray anything but water once your in the FC. Unless u get a contam then throw it out

Really- because I love green mold. I grind it up into penicillin powder and sell it on the streets. Flu season, bitches.

well i guess i wasnt clear on the bleach spray thing dont spray it in your fc i just use it to keep the house sanitized. and i dont mix bleach with anything but water.

I microwave my casing in covered microwavable containers at three 3 minute intervals. I have 1/4 inch holes in the lids covered with micropore tape to allow for any gas/pressure release. Probably not ideal for most but it has always worked for me.
The more accepted way is to pasteurize in jars or oven bags in a pot of water between 60C/140F - 70C/160F for one hour.

Pure verm?
Are you using it straight from the bag?
Why not try a 50/50 peat/verm casing?
I wouldn't spray different chemicals in the air at the same time. Some chemicals become highly toxic when combined.
If you're going to use both, at least wait 30 minutes or so between applications.

Make sure you smell your jars before you toss em in there. If they smell like dirt, they most likely are already infected. If so, check your inoculation and sterilization techniques.
If you are getting contams before the first flush, its almost guaranteed that your spawn is contaminated.
Are you giving your tubs/trays a nice rubdown with IPA before putting stuff in there? Are you keeping your growing stuff on the floor?
