Pinning and Wetness questions.
    #11341755 -

My cakes dont seem to want to fruit a 2nd time, I was misting regularly and the cakes were damp, like a wad of rung out wet paper-towels to the touch... I let them dry by not misting for a day and ended up with a few pins the next day...

I was wondering about post-dunk they are soaked... how long till they "dry out" enough to pin?

Im worried about how much misting I should do... Im broke when I get some extra cash I plan on making a FC, currently using a shotgun with improper holes... several large/small ones randomly placed but mostly at the bottom and top, with a perlite bottom, some pics of them can be seen in my picture gallery, as its my first grow and will be easy to spot...

Fruits come out looking good usualy, large bodies tend to have warped caps, usualy with a very wet patch... Having problems getting new pins on most of my cakes...

Mist as needed. There's no way anyone is going to be able to give you a number.
Fresh out of the dunk, they are wet. And they dry off. You want to allow that, to some extent, they won't stay soggy. But don't let them dry much- mist to keep humidity up and prevent evaporation.

I had that problem and it turned out that misting them only lightly twice a day let it slowly dry, and by day 4 after the first flush, I began to see more shrooms. Day 5 all but one cake was pinning. Make sure you've got a good light setup though. That's a major factor too.

So misting is more about humidity and less about "watering"?

I think ive been a foolish noob.

Everybody has been.
You aren't misting the cakes directly. You can do this with a bulk tub, though you may not need to. But with cakes, the verm holds the water.

omg, that explains all of my problems... X_X so mist once heavy right after D&R and then only for keeping the perlite wet after?

My perlite seems to be holding its wetness pretty well, ive tested it every 2 days by digging down into one of the corners and into the dead center with my fingers, they came up wet and with perlite stuck to them.. kinda hot right?

Could I leave the verm dry to get rid of the "soak" factor in the cakes?

Get your FC up to speed before the cakes go in, then just mist as needed. You have a calibrated hygrometer, yes?

I rewet and refluff my perlite about every other week. Your mileage may vary.

Dunk and roll as per the tek. Don't improvise, you noob!

Just give them a good shake to remove excess water. Remember you don't want standing water on your cakes.

My squirt bottle is... was... a pain in the ass, didnt its plunger device kept getting stuck and not refilling, had to wiggle every time I wanted to mist... but resently the trigger snapped in half...

Ive got like 6 1 inch holes in the bottom, right at the perlite layer, a couple are halfway under the perlite, figured that would dump co2 off very well, and its shotgunned on top... and a few small holes in the bottom, no elevation though Other FC is similar but smaller, I want to remake 1 nice long shotgun...
