Wow, it took someone more than 2 years to finally come out with something better than the iphone. And it's only because they say it's better than the iphone, not because people have actually had a chance to use them yet and make that determination.

ah pish posh phones. i buy the 20 dollar phones from wal mart. i fuck them up so frequently its alot cheaper this way. the last phone i really paid for was like 200 bucks a couple years back. the spurs didn't make it to the finals and i threw the phone against the wall. that was the end of my expensive phone buying.

i got the tmobile g1 about a year ago and thats running android. after a year with the software id say one could make an accurate determination which os is better for their needs.
im getting the new motorola cliq (also running android) on tmobile when it comes out next week.

I signed with Verizon because I get a pretty significant discount and Verizon ends up being the cheapest, that plus it has the most reliable service made it a fairly easy choice.

I think any system that does not have the Big Brother aspect of posting and making applications is going to be superior to iPhone. the best thing about android is anyone can make an app, and it doesn't have to be 'accepted' after review by soem company...so no censorship. Of course, this may also cause a problem here and there with apps that could delete system files or do some sort of damage, but its worth it to have open development IMO.

The iPhone is $199 on contact - $699 off.

I will not be getting this phone.
This is what, the third or fourth straight major phone Verizon has come out with that they said is "better than the iphone".
And every single one of them, without fail, has fucking sucked.
I absolutely love my Verizon service and it's the first phone company I haven't had major problems with.
But all of their phones suck so fucking hard.
That Blackberry Storm is just awful. I can't type for shit on that fucking thing. The Voyager was the worst phone in history.
I am almost positive this new one is just another over-hyped piece of garbage hardware from Verizon.

I just need a phone that can go on youtube. I don't need anything else but that. My Sprint contract is up soon so I'll be looking. Anyone know of any cheap ones off hand that have this capability? I don't need apps or anything, just the tube.

figures this gets released like 2 months after i sign up for a g1. oh well...that's technology.
the processor in the droid is about 2x faster than the iphone 3gs, and it will be the first phone with the new android OS (eclair). it has a full qwerty keyboard with a tracking capacitor and a top notch touch screen. the hardware definitely beats the iphone, and the software is just as good. the only thing holding it back is verizon's data plan. t-mobile is still the only carrier offering broadband speeds on their 3g network. at&t and verizon won't have their 4g networks out until late next year at the earliest.

My uncle works for Verizon and got to fuck around with it, and he said it kicks the shit out of any phone he's ever seen. He's been a huge blackberry fanboy for years now, and says that blackberrys and Iphones can't even come close to it. Have to wait and see though.

okay, so motorola ditched the snapdragon cpu? wtf. you are right i just looked at the current normal droid specs and it says 550mhz. how do motorola think they can compete with the HTC HD2 and the iphone if they are using a year old processor. it is hardly faster than the original G1. the droid eris only costs $99 and it had nearly the same specs as the full blown droid...??

no i am not. trust me i've been in AMD vs. Intel battle too many times to forget that 
also...i found out where i pulled those 600mhz-1ghz numbers from. ARM's cortex 8 processor comes in those speeds but evidently the droid is using an underclocked version or something. http://www.arm.com/products/CPUs/ARM_Cortex-A8.html

Droid can also run more than one application at a time.
Even with a 528 mhz processor, and more intense UI, Android runs very smoothly.
