Bob the Guru
    #11337310 - 10/28/09 10:04 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Bob was a well known guru in spiritual circles. He had lots of fans, followers and admirers. People called him enlightened. Bob got caught up in a sex scandal (imagine that). One of his followers changes their opinion and sets out to bring Bob down. They contact all his fans they can, they carry the message to the media, and spend what seems to be all of their energy to make Bobs problems as well known as possible.

Now hardly anyone is showing up at satsang. People are canceling Bob's news letters. His touring schedule is ruined. So Bob confronts the guy and says "Please, for the love of God, leave me alone... it's my karma to deal with!"

The man replies "Bob, I am your karma."

Q- Can a person consciously embody karma? And, can it be proper to do so?

As karma in the classical sense is total nonsense...

Man you ask weird questions. To me the answers are so evident. Well, chalk it up to youthful folly, but just remember you won't be able to use that excuse indefinately.

But by that time, you will be forgetting what it was we were talking about. Paradoxicity.

every thing is karma

this is just like the rebirth post i made
the teaching of karma is not 'my name is earl'
'do nice things, nice things will happen for you'

the teaching of karma is to see through karma by finding out who the doer of action is
to cease creating more karma through selfless action
then burning off your remaining karma & end the birth/death cycle

you can say 'i am karma' and act like a dick if you like
thats your karma

btw being a guru doesnt mean you can't have sex
its only when you tell them 'you will spiritually benefit by having sex with me'
then it becomes wrong...
some people act like a guru having sex is autmatically rape or something
when a holy man get his rocks off suddenly its 'abuse'

:peace:

Come on Ice, it's a philosophical question. Maybe you shouldn't be so presumptuous about the underlying reasons for the content. If the answers are evident, let's have them... or just chastise my supposed youthful folly without giving an answer. It is the answers which I would find intresting, obvious or not.

Good answer. What I'm actually curious about is how, as observers, we should see these reactions. Should we agree with the antagonist (assuming the scandal was what it appears to be)? Should we rebuke the antagonist? Or just let things be as they are? Let's assume Bob was slapping Jenny around because she wouldn't give head. This goes against what Bob would advise in public.

I bring up this example because it's an easy target, but the implications could be applied to almost any situation.

Would it make any difference if the antagonist was Jenny's husband?

You can rate a guru by the amount of peace/happiness/bliss you obtain while in his presence

If he was slapping her about then it doesnt make a difference if the antagonist is the husband, but if the antagonist is the husband then of course it could just be all made up

If 'Bob' was sleeping with a married woman
i don't see this as a reflection of his Guru skills AT ALL
you can sleep with whoever you want if they are willing

Smacking women round the face is something else
unless they literally ask you to do it during sex...then oblige :naughty:

What everyone will do is eventually make up thier own mind about it
The mind will always in some way resist the guru, always try & find a way out...

Yea the mind does that.

To be clear, the offense isn't presumed, it's fact. We don't need to wonder if a hypothetical is true or not. You don't need to defend a hypothetical guru do you?

It's common to hear the phrase "Well, they have every right to be angry." The phrase isn't usually an affirmation of rights, but usually an agreement with the anger.

Someone who takes their anger out by physcially abusing a woman i wouldn't say has truly found the Self
Id say they would very much be still be wrestling with their ideas of self if they have to physically harm another being to find 'release'

I agree, Bob is a real piece of work.

So, knowing this, would it be right to spend the time to inform the public about how much of a hack Bob is? I mean, you might save a few kiddies from his hypnotic bull shit. Or would it be right to just walk away and leave Bob to his fortune?

Whatever this guy thinks of Bob is just his opinion. I think it is obsessive to go to such lengths to spread your opinion.

It would be ethical IMO to inform the public with whatever factual evidence you possess.  That's another can of worms than believing you are metaphysically the embodied outcome of the accumulation of another person's right and wrong actions.

“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

You will do what you will do... there is no 'should do this...'
Whatever comes natural, if you feel to walk away walk away, if you feel to advise others to stay away, do so...

The only thing I would ever advise a human being that they should do
Is find out who they are

Any other advise is to molest their expression

I am me. That is just a label. What am I is a more pertinent question.
I am energy that has awareness and lots of junk stuck in me. I am trapped in am illusory experience.
