Never been in a fist fight

Am I a pussy, a wimp? Perhaps, but I don't thinks so having athletic trophies from three different sports, one of them - powerlifting. I am short, but thickly built.
What then is the trick? Tai Chi, baby. No, not the physical martial art, but the art of deflecting. It is rare for someone to go directly to fighting without at least some minimal amount of foreplay. When someone pushes on you and you don't push back, it is more difficult for a potential antagonist to go to the next level.
Humor is one way and catching someone off-guard by differing from an expected response is another. Once I was in a nightclub and some gang-banger caught me staring in his direction. He practically bolted over and shot out the tired line with a threatening glare, "What the fuck you looking at, homes?!" His three compadres stayed where they were, but were watching like hawks in case they needed to jump in.
I gave him a wide grin and said you look a lot like an old friend of mine from LA. He instantly dropped the attitude and we made small talk for a moment and then he walked away. Note that I neither backed down nor challenged him.
Will this always work? No, but most of the time it will.
The one time I did have to lay hands on someone was when a drunk stopped a car he was driving while I was walking home. He slammed into the curb and jumped out. At first I didn't notice a young woman standing nearby until he started yelling at her to get into the car. They were blocking the sidewalk and as I pushed past, the woman said, "I am with this gentleman here" as she hooked her arm in mine. "Oh shit, I thought - here it comes!" The guy turned on me and said in a threatening manner, "Oh, is that right?" as he stepped towards me. He was large, belligerent and drunk. Charm would not work here. I bull-rushed him and slammed him backwards on the hood of his car. Then I quickly pressed my forearm to his throat and applied pressure. He was helpless. I told him that I wanted no part of his mini-drama, but if he persisted in involving me that I would seriously fuck him up. "Are we cool?" I asked. "Um yeah, I guess..."
I leaned more heavily on his throat, pressed my knee into his groin and yelled in his face, "ARE WE FUCKING COOL?" "Yes, yes, we are cool!" he said with fear in his eyes. I held the position for a moment more then let him up.
I never actually hurt him, but established dominance and the battle was over without a blow.

why do you feel the need to continually justify your actions here and make these posts that mostly and in a backhanded way tell us how cool you are?
Just wondering.

You found me out, Dr. Ice.
Because I am actually totally uncool and live trembling in fear. I am Death Anxiety personified and am really a pencil-neck.
Are you happy now?

Well now we have a balanced perspective. I think you are some of both.
Mostly pussy though.

I've been in many drunken fist fights... but if it'll make you feel any better, I never win any of 'em.

This is great advice!

Why is this world populated with such drama-queens?
I would have done the same thing...

I'm so scared of actually having to fight someone who might have a knife or a gun...
I've never completely lost a fistfight, but I can't say that I've ever been declared the definite victor, either...

Thanks for not kicking my ass. I might have deserved it. My hoes got a little out of line but yes we are fucking cool. Sir.

Or perhaps a Master knows that the only real competition is with himself?

From what I understand from glancing at your posts(which is very little),you are a thinker and maybe you resolve any of your conflicts using words or in situations where digs may be thrown you just avoid them altogether.
Maybe?
