Why my beliefs cannot be ridiculed
    #11338207 - 10/28/09 02:37 PM (7 years, 11 months ago)

Simple. Because they are logical and rational and make sense.

The only slams have been arguments from incredulity, which of course, have no philosophical merit.

Any beleif can be ridiculed
Cause its only a beleif

What you see as rational & logical, is also beleif based, imagination
Years from now it will be seen as ignorant & delusional replaced by new beleifs

Any beleif system is imagination, rooted in imaginary mental attachment to sense objects
Only a mind devoid of imagination is 'rational' & 'logical'

:peace:

Not only could you be ridiculed, you would have been likely killed/excommunicated for your impervious beliefs, just a mere ~400 yrs ago in western society. Hooray progress...

i couldn't agree more.

they make sense to YOU. and to the people you argue to, are prolly on the same trip that you are.  you may also defend yourself into the grave because of your arrogant attitude.  (false)confidence like that will make people believe almost anything if you argue it hard enough.

you must be a profit however.  they seem to have that attitude of "i know it all"

...unless you are being sarcastic.  then cheers to you.  you have played my all-time favorite game of getting people rilled up.

I think the only beliefs that really cannot be ridiculed are the ones that come naturally.
Like 1+1=2, that there's a computer in front of me, that there's a room next to mine, that what I see when I trip is not real...

Everything else could be laughed at! However, some things are just funnier.

I say everything can be ridiculed. Maybe this way we'll learn that being upset = being dumb.

This is true, even in the most socially unacceptable circumstances

Next time someone reports the death of someone else, look to see if they arent hiding a smile behind their 'poor him, he was so nice...'

Well, I find it hard to laugh at the fact that we think 1+1=2.
I mean, maybe our logic is flawed and that 1+1=3 is somehow possible but... doesn't make me laugh.

The belief that your beliefs are infallible is the most ridiculous belief of them all. They are self ridiculing.

Here's a quick insight into your rationality orgone:

Like Hobbes' "ratiocination", the concept is rooted in ratio. See Leviathan:

Rationality is ordinarily expressive in a medium - a logos - from which we represent a ratio. (We would come to a similar understanding for the purposes of this thread to trace logical, to its root in logos.)

But if you are rational" what would this mean? Supposing that you/your beliefs are in "natural" ratio with reality, what active risk do you take in the transcendental derivation of b from a/b?

If you say "apparently none", what does this mean?

That you are reactionary, merely considering yourself subject to nature? Or the other way around, that you are a dictator?

Either way, a conformist.
