Dunk after 2nd flush???

Hi!

I harvested my 2nd flush the day before yesterday and have just patched and misted heavily.

It's been recommended that I dunk, but am I too late?

If not I'll do it today...

not that it matters much.. if you wanna dunk do it up ... let water run over the surface in your bathtub or sink for a few hours drain the excess water and you are good... a good dunk never hurts.. deffinatley try to do it before it starts pinning again tho for best results.

yeah it's a tray...

I can't see the pins though. The casing was a little thick I think.

When the second flush came up, I didnt see pins before they were big.

They grew allmost an inch from the substrate before coming up...

Should I do something about that too?

its up to you.. i really wouldnt scrape it off might shock your myc this late in its life.. id just dunk and flush it again.

and option would be to lightly scrape some of the casing away next time just dont case but thats really at your discretion:shrug:

But won't not having a casinglayer decrease the total yeild?

no, casing is completley optional with cubes. some people swear by it others say not needed..

what bulk sub are you using?

i usually scrape off the top layer after the 2nd flush and crumble whats left into a new casing with more substrate and a thin layer of verm. not saying to do this but just a thought.

I was thinking 'bout requiering some H-poo, so maybe I can crumble and put it in a tray with double the amount of H-poo, then wait for it to recolonize, and then case it (or not...)

That is after the next flush (I won't do it now)

Would this work at all or are the cakes exhausted?

well the cakes might be but if your adding something for them to eat they will recolonize it. but i scrape off the layer that has been exposed to get rid of any contams and make a whole new casing with more substr8

Yeah I just did that without adding more substrate...

Scraped off 3/4 of the casing, and re-cased. I did this out of fear that the smaller aborts and bottom of the remaining stems would rot.

But I since heard it isn't necessary... so I won't do that again.

So before i discard it I'll try to recolonize some H-poo...

oh if your casing cakes then dont skip the casing..

but imo cakes should be fruited as cakes :shrug: unless crumbling to a bulk sub.
