So i was thinking(Oh No!!!).... need opinions.
    #11337013 - 10/28/09 10:56 AM (8 years, 24 days ago)

I've been using the condom tek  agar posted a while back... And I was thinking about how to improve it for drawing out some lc, I have some in a baby bottle and I'll have to inject some air first... So how bout, taking a syringe and draw some air into it... put a sponge on the end of it... wrap it in foil, then give it a run in the pressure cooker, then go straight to the bottle, allow it to suck in the air and draw it out, all without the needle being exposed ever...

Sound plausible?

I can't see why it wouldn't work as long as you keep the syringe off the bottom of the PC.

You could also try lighting a candle or alcohol burner and suck in air through the flame. I've read somewhere that works.

I was more curious about the sponge and stuff, Not so worried about the air, I know it will be sterile... how long should I PC for?

Nah, I've pressure cooked them a bunch of times... just wondering about using a sponge in the pressure cooker!

like a dish sponge? It'll be okay as long as you put enough water in there so it doesn't burn. They're like 50 cents anyways.

i dont see why a sponge wouldnt work
you could always just put the cap on the needle loosely
then wrap in foil,PC
then move straight to your GB

that way your needle will be sterile
and so will the air inside

yeah even if the sponge bursts into flames, it's not like it's going to blow the lid off and cause your house to explode.

yeah, I just don't want to have to have the needle touch any open air until i draw out my LC... I find it nessecary to be extra cautious with LC, I've messed a lot up... well thanks guys, I figured it would...

Is no one worried about the air in the syringe expanding when heated and pushing the plunger out? Thus making the whole effort futile?

No, this would be pretty unusual to happen. I've pressure cooker numerous syringes with no result other than being sterilized or maybe sucking up a little bit of water....

Hm I find that odd. I would have thought the air would expand and pop the plunger out. Just out of curiosity does anyone know the science behind why it doesn't? Or why, apparently, it sometimes sucks in water? I would be very interested in the physics that apply to this.

The pressure inside matches the pressure outside. If the end is open and in water, it'll suck up water as it cools.
You can see it with jars- put some jars upside down in your PC, with enough water that they can suck it up and still have their rims under water.

You make it all possible. Doesn't it feel good?

Bah, I see the flaw in my logic. I was assuming the syringes would be capped (sealed). If they were, then they would possibly eject the plunger.

Thanks, I can't believe I didn't see that before.

You've got it backwards. A capped syringe holds pressure inside, but there's pressure outside too.
Only way it can pop out the plunger is if you had it all the way back and the catch was loose.
