Pasturized sub is now soaked
    #11336070 - 10/28/09 02:55 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

I pasturized my cow poop/ verm mixture in an oven bag placed in hot water. Now aftet pasturization it looks like it is totally soaked, too much water in the bag but the bag isn't leaking. Not sure how this happened. Anyhow I was wondering what would be the best way for me to bring my sub back to field capacity. Is it ok for me to just use my hands and sqeeze out the sub as I put it into the monotub? any better ways? It's still sealed in the oven bag so I'm going to deal with this in the morning. Thanks guys!

you could try poking a few holes in the bottom of the bag and putting it in a colander/strainer to drain excess water. even squeeze it a little if you think you need to.

So I poked a few holes on the bottom of the oven bag and of course it decides to bust open. Luckly I had it inside a big empty pot when that happened. So it took me 1 1/2 hours to hand squeeze 12 quarts of sub. Hands are tired and I can definetly say hand squeezing sub is a shity job!LOL I did find a small hole in the corner of the bag, I was wondering did this happen because I didn't let the bag vent during pasturization? I'm thinking there was too much pressure in the bag and this is what happened.

probably, i think i would do mine inside an oven bag, submerged in the hot water.

and set the moisture content before hand.

whoa, 12 qts by hand, i feel for ya bro

Thanks man, yeah I had it at perfect field capacity before it went in the oven bag. Next time I think I'm going to vent it.

just leave the bag open and lay it out over the side under the lid. (away from flames!)

plug in the meat thermometer in the dead center of the poo.

heh, no mess.

when its all done and cooled down.

just tie the bag up till u use it
